That depends on how strict Texas is on texting while driving... :deadhorse:

What I see happening is people starting to bitch and complain about how bad the fuel economy they are getting is when they are frequently driving 90+ mph. No use explaining to them that drag force increases with velocity of the car squared.

That's how I roll :). Back when I was a freshman in college I used to drive to and from Durham and Concord pretty frequently (my then girlfriend, now wife was still a senior in highschool). Plus my mom would buy me beer (hey weren't we talking about criminals somewhere? :) ). Given my work study job paid crap, I started experimenting with driving speed. The route was exactly 120 miles and it was all highway 85 so it was easy to have a 'control'. Anyway, I had my 98 DX civic coupe back then (no cruise control) but when I would drive 80-82mph the whole time ( I would always have the A/C on the same temp/fan speed), I'd get a very consistent 35-36mpg. Scale back to 65mph?....shot up to 40+ mpg. That's a 14% increase in economy and I'd get there in 1:50 vs 1:30.

I did it so many times that I didn't think it was a fluke (granted my overall fuel economy started slipping because I started using Sam's Club gas ;) ).

With the WRX I noticed a similar difference between 65mph and 80 mph on highway trips (28mph at 80mph and 30-31mpg at 65mph). Obviously it was not as pronounced since the WRX had some torque at low rpms. In the Honda at 80mph, you come to even a 3% grade, you are almost flooring it to keep the velocity steady :).

Haven't really done any road trips in my SI. Probably NCAC will be the first time to give it a try.

Too busy breaking it in?

Man, I can't break 30 mpg (with cruise control) to Charlotte and back from downtown Raleigh to save my life and don't do more than ten over especially with the fact that the troopers on 85 are more than plentiful on a daily basis.

I tend to get 25mpg in the SI driving around town with infrequent sub 5000 rpm shifts :).

Yesterday's fillup:

228 miles/11.8 gallons = 19.3 ftl

The ITR and the E46 M were both better and I don't even speed and have even thought about ditching the V1.

I get better than that with my 3800lb, 400hp, 6.0L GTO.

I got about 22MPG in the Mustang to and from CMP earlier this year. That was doing 75MPH w/ crusie, using A/C, pulling a 4'x7' trailer. Oddly enough I've get similar highway mileage w/o the trailer. Must be all the torks, of the vee-eight yo!

Some report better highway MPG (about 26) in the S197s, but I can't seem to achieve that goal. I guess they don't have a 93 performance tune, and 3:55 rear end that I do.

Heck yeah! I got 274 miles/13.4 gallons = 20.45 ftw! 8)

Thats with the customary 1 redline per each trip back and forth to work and shifting between 4-4500k

I can get 27MPG in the ZHP if I'm nice to it. 24MPG if I'm not as much.

Yet another reason why it might be the greatest sedan ever built.

2nd greatest. both of my m3/4/5s delivered 28, even 29 mpg if driven nicely.
