Our house has a lot of gold/brass in it, including the master bathroom. The fixtures are old and need replacing and I want to go with a nickle finish. However, the shower doors and the frames of the sliding closet doors are all gold/brass. Is there a way to strip that finish off and recoat with something that will stand up to "bathroom duty"? Eventually, I will totally remodel the bathroom, but for now the gold has to go. From what it looks like, these frames are aluminum, not sure if that matters or not. Some items like the shower panels cannot be removed from the room. Any advice/thoughts would be welcome. I know the best solution would be to rip it all out and buy new, but it just isn't in the cards right now.

You could probably get them nickle plated, but my guess is that it will likely cost you more to have that done than to buy new. :(

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

We used a Satin Nickel spray paint by RustOleum on our whirlpool tub fixtures. It looks good and has not flaked off even with being under water some of the time. Here is a link to the exact produce http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=181&sid=249130. We bought it at Home Depot or Lowe's.

How did you prep/prime the fixtures before painting?

Cleaned all the parts with a green scrubby and soap and water. Applied two coats of paint without any primer. None of the parts rub against each other. So I'm not sure how it will hold up with parts that rub together.
