recycling copper

Now that the new heat pump is in place, I've stripped out all of the aluminum and copper from the old unit. I have it separated into plain copper, copper w/ solder and aluminum. Where's the best place to take this to get a few bucks?

Wise has a recorded message with prices so you can get an idea what the stuff is worth (IF you know their lingo).

Definitely worth the trip for that stuff, I think scrap copper is ~$3 per lb right now

Lee county scrap metal is another option down in Sanford (far for you though).

I think the new construction site at the Wake Cty Detention Center needs some more copper

Holy cow batman..... Now I see why copper theft is up. I took the metals from my old heat pump, granted this also included the old line set that connected the air handler to the outside, unit up to TT&E. I had everything separated from plain copper, copper w/ solder and aluminum. I put everything on the cart and they put it on the scale, removing like metals one at a time.

Final tally? $121. damn. I was expecting 30-40 bucks. Looks like I can fill up the tank again!

Also, if anyone has any old dead car batteries they're tired of looking at, the scrap guys are paying decent money for those now too. It wasnt' too long ago that you were lucky to get $1 each for them- now it's up to ~$7-8 each.
