Tonight I got an brochure from BMW North America. They're inviting me test drive some BMWs next Tuesday, and in return for my time and willingness to suffer through a sales pitch, they'll give $10 to the US Olympic Team. Seems BMW is now a sponsor of Team USA.

$10

Well.

The featured car in the brochure is a 650i convertible - with a big red "USA" on the door, and a German license plate. The brochure says they'll have this model available for drives, as well as the "full line", and some competitors' cars too.

Is this worth a half day of vacation?

only if the test drive is at the track or at least an AX course. IMHO

Since you won't be responsible for the CEL that is bound to insue, I'd say go for it.

yup. do it. $10 to drive a $80k+ car = easy button.

FWIW, if you want to flog it on track or autox you have to do the M driver experience at Greer SC testing facility, for around $700.

(edit: it was $700 when I did it via BMWCCA in 2007...now priced at $1295 at bmwusa.com  but may be cheaper for members)

Never mind.. I logged in tonight and found that the 3-series and 5-series rides were all claimed. Not interested in driving bigger models or SUVs. Snoozing=losing, and I was sitting on the fence asking others what I want to do. Now if a local Ford dealer was offering drives in a Boss 302, I would have lit my keyboard on fire signing up.

the twin turbo V8's(550i,650i,750i) are nothing to laugh and will enialate some tires when the dsc is turned off. the 3l turbo diesel in the suv's is a killer combo and a lot of fun to drive. i'd suggest going if you have not driven any of the F-cars yet.
