I've been thinking of trying to run one/all the events. I'll probably stick with being a traffic jam in Cat 3. I've about decided that I can ride all day - so long as the pace is slow. Make me go fast, and I die quickly :(

Maybe I'll even pre-ride some of the trails this year. Last years Race at the Reactor was the first time I had ever been to Harris Lake. I finished well behind the rest of the pack...

Awesome! Huck-A-Buck at Crabtree isn't on an autocross day this go-round. I'll probably do that and maybe the Briar Chapel event as I had an incredible time at the 6 BC festival there last year.

Scott,

They usually post a trail map of the course if you want to pre-riden. It really helps to see the course in advance and gives you an idea of what pace you can set.

I definitely want to do Briar Chapel. The course they laid out last year included some of the technical rock sections. Should be good fun.

I'm having a tough time envisioning a very fun race at CNF or even Briar Chapel. Most of both of those places are way too narrow to pass or be passed.

There are very few places to pass at Briar Chapel but since it was a six hour event, most people were really cool about it if you call it out. I still can't get over these hardcore guys riding a sweet tandem because some of the sections out there were pretty sketchy and rocky. A second or two before I was going to pass these guys the rider on the back nipped a tree with his shoulder (they 'apexed' a turn a little too soon), got knocked off the bike, landed on his feet, ran about ten big paces, then jumped back on the bike and kept going. Definitely an A+ for effort! :P

The one race I did was very civilized. If you wanted by, just pick a side and declare it at a less technical section of the trail. I know I was happy to move out of the way of the faster folks behind me, it just isn't a big deal (at least in beginner class).

Well, I've done enough races to know how it works and even know how well it works. But the tighter the course is, and the fewer wide spots there are, the more annoying it is, period. I only did it for 2.5 of the six hours at Warrior Creek (did the team thing, and my teammate was a bit on the slow side so that was all I got), and Warrior Creek is WIDE compared to either of those two trails. It was tolerable there, but I'm just not feeling it at the others.

I'm not saying I won't do it, I'm just not very enthused by it. We'll see...I've been a little more focused on getting my running decent lately. A friend and I won our age group in the Muddy Buddy in Richmond a couple weeks ago (out of 40 in our group), and I'm doing a Warrior Dash down in Georgia on Sunday. Then next week I'm off to WV for five straight days of riding in the mountains. Been doing some road stuff lately trying to get better prepped, but after that if I ever want to sit on a bike again I should be in pretty good shape for it. :)

Definitely doing the Dark Mountain Triathlon and Duathlon in early October. Doing the Charlotte Warrior Dash. Also doing the Fleet Feet Mud Run in Saxapahaw. Oh, and the Run the Gauntlet in Boone.

I wish they had a few big races at Warrior Creek. That trail is just so much more fun.

Next race is this Sunday at Lake Crabtree. Anyone going? Hopefully it won't be too hot. :?

Right now I am leaning towards not racing. It was 99 at noon and it's 102 now.

Matt, did you race last year? I know it was close to 100 last year.

I've been drinking lots of water for like 48 hours and I'm still nervous about tomorrow. I asked my wife to grab several Shot Blox from the store - every little bit helps. Last year I bailed and went to the Gymkhana Practice in Danville because I wasn't riding much.
