"Interesting" information for iPhone users.

That kind of stuff is what keeps me from buying a phone. I get that it's cool to haveapps customize things based on your location, but storing it, and transferring to your PC is a bit much. That "walled garden" of Steve Jobs sure makes it seem like you have to sell your soul to gain entry. No thanks.

Yeah, apparently people didn't realize that it's not really yours...only on loan from Steve Jobs, just like all the details about one's private life it stores. :)

I was just reading about that and then found this about any phone's data being searched during traffic stops

I can't say that I like this, but what's the difference between this and the cell phone companies storing that data. At least this data is controlled by you and not accessible by law enforcement. Yet.

It's partly controlled by you. If you lose the phone or PC, stolen, etc; plus I don't think cell phone companies are storing GPS coordinates on a continual basis? In any event, (theoretically) their records require a court order to obtain. Anybody with access to your PC can grab your phone's file. Also, see above about the story of police in Michigan asking for phones in traffic stops...

I've got financial data on my computer and phone that I would be much more concerned about over someone seeing the route that I take to work each day.

Who in their right mind would hand over their phone to a random cop at a traffic stop?

My biggest problem with this is that I wasn't informed of it.

Apparently it's covered within that zillion page license agreement we all read in detail and then go over with an experienced lawyer. :)

Uh, companies get stuff stolen all the time like this. Much more than we even know about. *shrug* Personally, I'm more comfortable with my security than that of your typical cellphone company, or any big company for that matter.

So, to me, nothing is good about this situation. But then again, I can't think of a single advantage a criminal could get against me by knowing where I am that they couldn't get from just following me out of my driveway.

If they have the skills and the proper equipment, sure. Or look like a cop. It's not a good idea to try to ditch them. ;)
