It would be kinda cool for monetary bribes to be donated to a local charity, but from what I understand the outright unethical behavior is part of the landscape. :whoknows: Don't like it? Don't play.

Sounds like everyone has been fine with it in general because the amounts were "reasonable." Now that the amounts are going up, well, you find people writing articles that wreak of butt-hurt.

Steven gets it and has never even run Lemons.

"Fair" in Lemons is whatever the hell they say it is...at that moment. If you don't care if you really win a 2,000,000 lap penalty doesn't even matter. 2nd place pays the same as DFL.

Sounds like Martin Swig needs some cheese with that whine. You can tell a true whiner, by the fact he's not even in the thing and he's whining.

I think when he said "Give me $1000" it was meant to be interpreted as "get f'd."

I couldn't resist, left this comment:

Mr. Swig,

I bet your kid’s Little League coach wouldn’t start your son even though he was the most talented player on the team.

My team has been given laps just because Jay wanted to, we bribed and still got laps. Who cares? We were there to race and race we did.

That’s what Lemons is about. If you want to reform racing why don’t you go talk to Bernie Ecelstone and get FI fixed, or Nascar to get the awful points system fixed, or see if you can get Indy back to it’s former glory.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

and name dropping didn't get my son out of trouble with the judges.

I'm gonna guess it went something like that.

So, I'm the pessimist who has maintained for a while that THIS is EXACTLY what will be the demise of LeMons. No, not this one incident, but the incidents that will follow. Or the inevitable dude who DOES pay the $1000. I suppose they'd then just find some other new way to penalize that team anyway?

But I fully admit I could be wrong. It could be that this is just an illustration of just how well the LeMons folks have it *right* and they got exactly what they wanted...cheater car penalized, core competitor base happy, and some free publicity to boot. Obviously you guys fall into the camp that probably thinks this is the angle it's taking, and I really do hope that's true. Any indications around that it's the other way, though?

I gotta admit, it is fun to watch. With all the truly stupid reality TV we have now (with most of it not even being reality at all, particularly the stuff like Pawn Stars that is sold REALLY well as the real thing and isn't even close), a reality show following LeMons around would do well.

I'd bet you exactly 1 dollar that this is the exact truth - prepped ex-racecars that someone manages to get for $500 are exactly what they don't want. Build your own, or take your laps and just go out and have fun, or go somewhere else.

Hell - I'd even bet 5 dollars :) .

Admittedly I'm taking a SWAG at this, but I bet if someone did pay up $1000 to "get out of" a 41-lap penalty the judges would smirk, say something snarky about "How dare you think I could be bribed like that!" and assess a 400-lap penalty for offending the high-mindedness and "unassailable integrity" of the judges. If Mr Lamm is smart (I think he is) he could get a lotof mileage out of this.

BS inspection is just part of the show. They don't even drink the bribe booze. I watched them closely, at the awards presentation they will open some of the beer and put it to their lips but never really drink it.

Jay himself indeed does have his personal favorites and has modified the rules on the spot to accommodate them. He saved the White Lightning RX-7 from being crushed even though the majority of the votes dictated otherwise per the rules. I wasn't too happy about that as many other weren't as well, but the same mantra still applies. Lemons is Jay's sandbox, and if you don't like the ever changing rules, go play somewhere else.

Donnie, you may be be right. Only time will tell. However for now, Lemons is at least twice as popular as Chump as the entry numbers clearly show. IIRC, the past race two weeks ago at Infineon, Lemons had 180 cars. If you add the entries from three Chump races together you'd still be shy of that figure. How they (Chump) can afford to run places like VIR with those numbers still baffles me. We don't care how they do it, as long as our car can run in both series we don't have to pick just one. 8)

the scary part here is that Cline finally used "spell-check" on something he posted. the end is near for sure..........

IMO, the Left Coast LeMons gangstas are way too serious, hell they have wait-listed teams for every event. have no doubts, LeMons is getting faster and more expensive on this side of the world also. as far as its demise, i can see numbers dropping on the East Coast but i don't think the same for the West Coast. not exactly sure why but my theory is cost of doing business.

i get the feeling that West Coast NASA, SCCA, Club Racing is exhorbitantly expensive anymore and the less affluent racers have trickled down into LeMons. while expensive i think the East Coast racing scene is still reasonably priced with a wide array of tracks within commuting distances.

and ChumpCar, well talk about a wide open circus............. get your tickets while it lasts.
