Does the unit itself not have bluetooth? And enough people have smart phones there has to be a way to do it.

from the website:

"The RaceChrono Pro System comes packaged with everything you see below which includes the TouchScreen Lap timer plus a GPS High Speed Bluetooth Receiver."

I am not tech-savvy enough to know if it will connect to a phone and transmit files...but I seem to remember Marty saying the touchscreen did not have a file mgmt system to do that, hence the need for a PC as an intermediary. I don't see info about a microSD slot on the main unit, which would be cool to add as you could transfer data to the card, then load it to other's units that way aswell.

There actually is a microSD card in the unit. There's also a thingy(don't know what it's called) to put it into to make it a regular size SD card. The program as well as collected data is on that micro as far as I can tell. I'm just not computer savy enough to know what to do with it other than use it to download the files to my computer. You're correct that the touchscreen doesn't have a file management system. But, you guys are way over my head. I'm just so happy to have the unit and the info at my fingertips. Walking the course to set my own course with my own traps is part of figuring out how to run the course.

Maybe Marty will chime in later.

I know the users of the Dell Axim based Race Chrono systems should be able to copy to the SD card and share. I have an Axim system as does Dustin and Kendt should be jumping on board soon (he has everything but didn't know that until today)

The units do have bluetooth, but at this time I couldn't get my phone to see it. you could pull the MicroCD card and put it into a phone that could beem the file. The easiest was may just hve one person bring a lap top. Hook the course walker's unit via usb cord and it shows up as a flash drive. Then other can just hook up via their cord and just copy the file from one unit to the next.

For the Classroom packages we supply a 10 point USB hub so all the units can share data and charge at the same time. Remember the file doesn't have to go on the PC, you can copy it from one unit to the next. Great way to swap session data at the end of the day too. Only takes a second for the unit to go into USB mode when connected.

It seems the easiest way is to have a multiport USB hub on the bus for us to plug in and share.

but I'll say it again. hint hint hint
It would be great if the Event Chairs walked and mapped the course and made the track file available the night before on the web/email or the morning of the event to copy.

whoa there horsey.... I think the EC's and GM's have enough to worry about during the event and course set up, but, I do see where all the RC owners could get together and "elect" 1 person to walk the track to share. We could rotate this duty at the different events.

...and knowing the course ahead of time *could* be misperceived by some as an advantage. Then again, Rodney's driven plenty of courses ahead of time, so maybe there's less of an edge to that than people think (j/k, of course.... :beerbuds: )

For anyone who's reading this thread and wondering about the Race Chrono, here's an example of the info you can look at in real time between runs , in your car, on screen w/o having to download to a computer. Here I'm comparing my run to my co driver's run. I'm the brighter color. :) On the top half of the touchscreen you see the course and points that I've trapped and named. The red arrow is my car and the blue arrow is my co driver. I can advance the action by running my finger over the graph on the touchscreen. I have the graph set here to show speed and distance. I can also track braking points here. On the lower left screen I can see my speed vs his at any point on the track. There are many other situations you can track, but this is just what I had up presently, and wanted to post a picture for everyone to see.

So I checked with the developer and at the moment the file management BT stack is not on the unit, so that would require a whole new node to be added. We did test a Smart phone though and USB-USB the phone saw it as a storage card and we could move files around.

As far as course reversal we talked about at the meeting, it seems it's not that hard just a matter of rotating the bearing of the split/line by 180 degrees. I also played with doing it manually and it was pretty fast.
