The only accident I've been in while driving was due to a pickup with non-working taillights and signals so I'm biased, but I don't think it's a good move to get rid of the what little they still do to make vehicles are safe.

I recieved a ticket in VA for breakchecking a cop... cop didnt quite care that the SUV in front of me had no working break lights... good thing cops are always 100% in the right. (sorry if I offend anyone by this, I have just had to many improper encounters to not be slightly jaded)

This pisses me off. When I ride my bike I see so many damn lug nuts and lug studs on the road its unbelievable. I also personally think that every car that gets inspected should have a refractometer analysis of their brake fluid and require that that car not leave the premises if the % water is greater than a given level. It's absurd to know that a ridiculously high % of 100k+ mile cars in the US have the factory fill of brake fluid in them.

The current safety test is a joke. It blows my mind the degree of crap that NC and other states allow to drive on public roads.

Emission inspections for 1996 model cars and newer would still be required.

How exactly is this going to save $100M a year if the vast majority of cars on the road still have to go in for an inspection?

Change "safety test" to "driver's license test" and the next sentence still works fine.

That's a good point. I guess an idiot driver in a perfect car is as bad or worse than a beater car with shitty brake fluid and 3/5 lug nuts on each wheel.

That's the first I've heard of that. I've brake checked a number of Morrisville cops for riding my ass. I'd love to have a discussion with one of them. There is a law against following to closely...I guess they are immune to it. What was your ticket written for?

The safety inspections are a joke. If the government really was worried about safety the SHP would pull cars for safety inspections on the spot rather than hide in the weeds trying to find somebody traveling 70 on a 4 lane level road with great brakes and tires. I'm fixing to go liberterian on somebody's a**

improper driving or impoper controll or something like that. It was almost 10 years ago at this point around va beach during the summer. I was also on my bike, so I could stop a bit better then most people. I was able to get the ticket dismissed and just figured it was VA being themselfs.

Just an observation, but your spell check never works, even though the new site does it for you. :? - AB
