I don't see why not, with the exception of if you read between the lines, it sounds to me like the guy was a complete ass to the cops, so they decided to stick it to him. And they did and his mouth cost him $2700 and a lot of explaining.

There are two groups of people I never mouth off to.

1. People who are alone with your food
2. The police

Donnie,

did you read his second post? He goes into more detail about it. it sounds like the cop was looking to put someone else in jail, but needed a "witness" what better way to get a witness then to threaten the witness into ratting out the inspector.

I can see it happening as I believe there are very corrupt people, but I still find it pretty far out there. (not saying disbelief)

I include hotel maids to that list. They are alone with my toothbrush and morning coffee.

True story, and Donnie is more or less correct.

I run a couple of other web sites, Carolina Hondas, and Imports NC, and have gotten used to dealing with the police over the years. We have a number of thieves on CH that brag about their exploits and try to sell stolen parts in the classifieds, so I work with different regional PD's and Sheriff's departments, giving them administrative access to the site so they can investigate car theft, and we have a forum moderator that is dedicated to spotting thieves and reporting them to their respective PD's. I had gotten entirely too comfortable around police officers and thought that I could handle myself in a police interrogation (I also used to perform police interrogations, but that was a long time ago). As my lawyer made abundantly clear to me, I was an idiot. As soon as they told me that I could remain silent, I should have known to do so. Any information that you give to police, even telling them that you did nothing wrong, can be used against you. I won't go into details, because I don't want these guys coming after me again, but they took my exculpatory statements and re-arranged them in the worst possible way, handily summarizing the excruciating details of my protestations of innocence into a concise confession. If I had remained silent, then I could have probably saved myself $2700. While I still believe that some of the police officers acted unprofessionally, it is in the end my own fault that I wound up getting charged.

All charges were dropped, and I agreed to plead "responsible" to a non-criminal infraction of allowing my inspection to expire, for which I gladly paid the maximum fine of $50.

Moral of the story: STFU and hire a good lawyer.

Thanks for the "rest of the story" and the good advice!
