I've got a Sirius Stiletto 2 that is in the Celica and the FX35 and STi have it built into the head units. Lifetime subscriptions on them all (transferrable up to 3 times for a fee).

While I have an aux input on all the cars, with the FX35 has ipod controls and my wife used it once to download all of her ipod to the 9GB of hard drive... yet she still listens to XM primarily.

HD radio can kiss my ass. It sounds good, but still has all the BS I hate about terrestrial radio. - AB

Steve,

Even with about 900 songs, it is amazing what comes up at times I have forgotten I have. You can create playlists, etc, or just allow the ipod or whatever to randomly select from the mix. If you get sick of that then start at the first song and have it go through your songs in alphabetical order by song title which is interesting.

I know what you mean though to some extent. One of things I like to listen to most on Sirius is on their 70's channel when they replay Casey Kasem's top 40 shows from the early 70s. :)

That's really funny, and explains how different listeners are. Casey Kasem's top 40 show is the ONE thing that makes me search for new (other) channels on Sirius. Otherwise, the 70s/60s/Bridge are 3 of my favorites.

But, the main reason I like Sirius better than iPod when driving is that I have so much choice depending on mood. Right now I'm over saturating on Christmas music on 3,4 and 79.

That's hilarious Gwen. When I read your comment, I asked myself why I liked some of those old shows. I guess it's because I was a young teenager in the early 70's (born in '59) and I'm reminded of those times by that show and friends I had then, etc. I was a budding music fanatic at the time and lived a dual life enjoying some top40 stuff once a week while otherwise only listening to "album rock" on FM. I lived in the NYC radio market at the time.

I stopped listening to radio when it became 30% music and 70% commercials. I do like new Music but I found it easier and better online available for download (legally) better than even XM/S. You also get a choice of bands that are just starting up or haven't become main stream. Some sites have "Featured Music" you can try out, so you load a few of them and listen as they come up. If you don't like them you just delete them and never have to worry about it again.

Plus on long drives I like a good Audio book as well.

Ipod/MP3 chargers are cheap and I can have 10-20 hours of book/music available and the Music can have some nice surprises.

I listen to audiobooks on my iPod or shuffle 8 or 24GB of music depending on which iPod I have. I can't tolerate commercials or the constant bullsh*t or radio talk or commercials.

I usually alternate between novels, comic novels, and history.

It's amazing just how bad the local radio stations have gotten. It's almost as if they want you to get a XM subscription.

Luckily there's Pandora on the smart phones.

I don't turn the radio on most days going to work. When I drive the Vette I like listening to it. When I drive the truck I just enjoy the quiet. I don't listen to an iPod. I gave it away. When I walk the dog at night I also get to listen to peace and quiet. I get more than enough noise to listen to all day long. I got XM radio with the truck for 30 days for free. I listened to the comedy channel. After 30 days I was glad it went away. The only time I enjoy the radio now is in the garage when I'm working on the cars.

I guess listening to quiet is not that popular ;-)

I knew that if I lived too long I would end up agreeing with Remchak on something. I prefer radio to playing my own music, whether I'm home or on the road. If I don't want to listen to a commercial or a song, or the idiot morning DJs on 96 Rock, I can just push a little button and get something else. Maybe it's a generational thing, but being able to push a BUTTON to get something I want (not sliding my finger around a featureless glass screen hoping to luck into something) is enough to make me happy.

Other things that can happen when you live too long:
1) Hearing that Mr. Neon Cavalier bought a Mustang
2) Finding the movie Grand Prix for $2.99 in the bargain bin at the Food Lion. I'm taking about the 2-VHS tape edition, which used to cost $30+

with you all the way on this...

For some reason I can't get NPR in my store but 99.9 comes in crystal clear and that usually stays on. Sometimes I'll leave it on 88.1 until it gets too unorthodox for a playground store. Of the prethora of cds my wife and I've collected, only about 100 are 'work safe' and I'm sick of those.

In the car it's most my iPod which I change pretty frequently from the old iTunes collection. Before a trip to Charlotte for work, I'll make a comp playlist and it's pure gold with a big cup of coffee while negotiating the rtp traffic out of town. It's cool that almost all cars come with the auxilary jack as I think the mp3 players are way safer than flipping though cd wallets like I had a bad habit of doing.

Little late to the party on this technological discovery (as usual) but, my buddy told me that you can purchase a headphone jack to rca adaptor to play it through the home receiver. Genius!

I don't know much about the pay radio programs but everyone I've met that have a subscription to one love it.

In the Charlotte area tune to 99.7 WRFX or listen to it over the Internet. We listen to it streamed over the net through a Squeezebox in the bedroom. They do 60 minute commercial free music (at least at night) and for products of the 60's (well, 1959), it's the music I'm stuck in for the most part -- mostly 70's (some 60's) and early 80's rock.
