Yeah, believe it or not, it is a derivation on the N54. Somewhat similar I think to the Z4 version. No word yet on actual output, just a lot of speculation, but I would guess somewhere in the 350 range. I think they're going to announce all the details tomorrow. Personally, I had hoped would come with a trick 6-throttle body induction system, but I doubt that will be the case.

I guess they can't run with "M1" for obvious reasons.

Hmm, B Stock or C Stock?

You're joking, right? Seems like it'll have to be at least AS if it's 350HP, and likely SS. With those flares it's gonna have a lot of tire. Might be an AS overdog, but the powers that be are probably looking for ways to put a shot in the arm of AS anyway, and this would likely do it...

Yeah, must be at least what the M3 is (AS) but I wonder how much lighter the 1M is compared to the M3. I was surprised by the smallish difference in weight between the 135i and 335i.

So if the M3 has 400chp and only weighs 200 lbs more than the 1M with 350chp, and they have comparable suspension and equal ability to fit wide tires, I'd say Donnie is probably correct in that it may be AS.

Hmmm, no. Just speculating poorly. Then again I'll be first to say that bench racing is not my strong suit. Yeah, I guess CS would be too slow in retrospect.

I just think they need to do some serious weight reduction versus the 135 to make it AS or SS worthy. Sure comparing it to the 135 in DS isn't really fair, but the E46 and E90/92 M3's aren't exactly destroying BS or AS. Think about it, when the 135 came out didn't it seem it would be a quicker car than DS with 300 hp and rear wheel drive of course? Hell, the numbers were pretty close to the E46 M3 and it got stuck in DS where it seems to belong although I know there are several other factors like tire width allowance, LSD (or lack thereof), NA vs. forced induction, weight, etc...

-Matt (better, albeit not great or even good, with car comparisons than just the specs) :P

I don't think there's any way to look at this on paper and think it'll be anything but faster than an E46 M3, so fear will put it a class above that if nothing else. Pretty sure it'll be lighter than that car, though how much is definitely the question. But it will likely have more power and be a couple hundred less, anyway, and with as much or more tire. And a newer suspension (though not necessarily better, I doubt it's any worse than a stock E46 M3, either). So it's at least an AS car, and as long as it's not insanely better on paper than anything currently in AS, I could see it getting used as a shot-in-the-arm to AS.

But we shall see.

Seems like a 2+2 replacement for the MCoupe, also in AS but certainly not an overdog. Looks great! The already soft market for Z4 M coupes looks to get a little softer....

But does it come with a real LSD, or a faux one?

It appears that it will have the E90/92 M3 LSD diff with cooling fins. From one of the guys who got to go on the test drive thing a few weeks ago, he states 340hp, less than 3300 lbs, 50/50 distribution, 265/35/19 at the rear, and 245/35/19 at the front.

So I'm guessing 8.5" front wheels and 9.5" rear wheels. The 19s will be the biggest issue for autox as I guess that means only A6s -- either 265/35 all around or if they fit 295/30.

I guess it is the bodywork, but I find myself thinking about the intro of the E30 M3 almost 24 years ago now. One of the first ones I saw was Ray Korman's Firehawk race car (he had chassis numbers 1 and 2), and then a bit later at the dealership where driving it was less than what I had hoped actually. Anyway, I think the aggressive bodywork looks really nice. It's hard to believe they would go to all this trouble for 1 year plus a few months of production (this is the end of the line for the current 1 as the next version is coming). I think they will all be "2012" models with production starting in March and ending in the summer of 2012. Supposedly, contrary to previous rumors, they will build to demand with no limit.

Apparently only three colors: Alpine White, Black, and Orange. Oh and it seems that maybe all cars will be made without a sunroof (thankfully!).

Estimated price? Or is this one of those "if you have to ask you cannot afford it" cars?

Between $45-50k I think has been thrown around, but with a mostly loaded up 135i at around $43k, and the stripped M3 coupe at $58k, I'm guessing it's closer to 50.

Does this car have a dipstick? I mean the one inside the engine bay, not the one named Remchak behind the wheel.
