As in AFR or is there something else?

yes, that. I haven't noticed any more commentary about lean conditions in later-year GR STIs...you?

Nothing yet, but I have a full 3300 miles on it since I bought it with 4 miles back in April. I figure at the end of the upcoming season, I will sell the car with 6k on it :)

After doing a lot of looking at the C6Z06 and the Lotus Elise, I am steering towards the cheaper and better handling Elise. - AB

I wouldn't launch any differently for drag racing than I do in autox....rev to 4-5k rpms and slip the clutch for 20 feet or so keeping the revs around 3-4k until fully engaged....no wheel spin. Easy on tranny....hard on clutch. Clutches are cheap :).

If you can't launch an AWD via a 5K rpm clutch drop, why bother? :P
Other than being hard on the drivetrain, because it would be terribly slow. A 5k clutch drop would get 2 or 3 revolutions of wheel spin and then they'd hook and the car would bog and you mind as well turn around and start over. A clutch slip launch has you at 8-10 psi of boost by the time the clutch fully engages....takes off like a rocket.

Aaron can get away with side stepping because his tranny is a monster and his gearing is MUCH shorter than mine.

I wish I had a digitized version of Jason launching his Talon back in the old days, it was a thing to behold. It would literally leap off the line, well at least the 4-5 times he got away with it before something in the drive train breaking. He ran a 13.0@99mph once which is just absurd ET for the trap speed. I think he was hitting low 1.7 60' times. For comparison's sake, my last outing in the vette I ran 12.9@108mph with a 1.9 60'. Maybe I'll try to dig those old videos up and get them digitized. I could also post some inspiration to those with FWD cars if I can get my first drag racing videos digitized, I did some pretty good damage with my Sentra SE-R at Farmington's 1/8 drag strip back in the late 90s, even killed a 5.0 Stang.

I'm very disappointment in you, not that there is anything wrong with an Elise and it is likely a better autocross choice for the most part, but come on.

I understand. When I am raw timing your SM2 car regularly, you'll really understand :) - AB

Calling my car and "SM2 car" is quite a stretch. Last time it was on the dyno it made about 10 hp more then a stock AS C5. It does have some stiffer springs I suppose FWIW, it could maybe be a halfway decent SS car. I don't have the spare $$ or inclination to build a real SSM car, though I will be making a couple improvements over the winter. Its okay that you are skierd of the big bad merican V8, the little Toyota 4 banger won't be nearly as scary and I'm sure it will suit you much better. :P

Your car may not be, but Bernie's is closer. I know I should handily beat my times in Bryan's C6 in the Elise on 95% of the courses we run. I don't believe anyone has brought out a SS prepped Elise (on shocks and A6's to an event). I think about places like Sanford's taxiway and grin :)

Sure it's no C6Z06, but it's probably $10-$15k cheaper and the tires are easily $400 a set cheaper... and last longer. Both are going to require a trailer and tow vehicle, so I'll have the money to do that.

Also, everyone says it's a Toyota engine, but actually it's a Yahama engine  - AB

I'm not so sure I agree, I think it is a bit of a toss up between mine and Bernie's car. On a course where one can use the power, his is probably faster as it is quite a bit faster in a straight line, but on a tighter more technical course I think mine probably is. I am at least on something closer to a BSP suspension, remember Bernie's on all stock C6Z suspension, doesn't even have a monster front sway or adjustable shocks. And Bernie's car is still well shy power-wise of a C6Z. Keep in mind both cars are quite portly at around 3350 lbs also. I think real ASP/BSP/SSM cars are under 3000 lbs have suspensions setups far more exotic and have aero.

Do you have more than one? Is this your STU car? It makes that much torque/power?

I have an 06 STi with exhaust stuff and computer retune via Cobb Accessport (multiple maps available, and I don't use the STU map when I'm not at an autox). Liz has an 05 STi that's stock. Stock is 300/300, mine is guesstimated by Cobb Tuning to be 350/385ish. It's a HUGE difference, whatever the actual power of each is.

edit: HUGE difference at 3000rpm, not as huge at 6000rpm.

Kevin speaks the truth. Just a re-map via AccessPort and the STi turns from mean to downright evil. - AB

Interesting, that should run pretty strong then. You should easily handle my station wagon unless you launch like your skierd which I'm doubting you will. Even Mike in the 5.0 is gonna have a hard time reeling you in if you get a good 60'.

Weather is looking good for Sunday. I still haven't heard back from the track, but I imagine they will be willing to set up the bracket race for us and if not, we can calculate it ourselves manually. We just wouldn't have the whole head start on the slower car and race to the finish thing. Here is a link to the track website:

Walter, are you gonna bring down your Camaro to give Bernie's plastic fantastic a challenge?
