Loaded both E36's and drug them to Richmond VA and back today. The whole thing pulls really nice but only got 9 MPG. Scaled it when I fueled up and the truck and trailer together were a mere 23,320 lbs with a full tank

There's a few hundred lbs more to go in the trailer before we are done getting it set.

9 mpg? you wuss, what were you doing? driving the speed limit?

9 mpg is pretty good Colin for that much weight. i hate to break it to you but once you start racing you will probably add another 800 pounds to your typical weekend commute. comfort items and spares mostly.

BTW, what is your tag rated for? you might as well paint a target on the trailer, 'cause DMV will be pulling you over at some point in the future.

Yeah - I've heard you do *not* want to mess around with not having the proper weighted tag. As heavy as that thing is you'll be selling one of the race cars to cover the fine :P

First, yes I have never driven 70MPH on US 95, but it seemed to be all uphill going to Richmond and my tranny temp was higher than normal so I was between 60 and 70 most of the way. I haven't filled up after the return trip, so maybe I did better downhill, but on the way home I was about 5 over the limit and felt like I could have pushed it more but this was my first long haul. Maybe next time.

I think I guestimated 22,000 lbs when I tagged the truck but I have to check. This expensive $9 weight check was to see how close I was. Right now I have exactly zero spare tires for the trailer (but I did have four E30 spares on board). I had only a few tools and other junk and the cars didn't have their cages installed yet so I'm guessing I'll be pushing 25,000 lbs by the time I'm done because I also decided that I need an auxiliary fuel tank for the truck, not to mention Debbie will be riding along most of the time.

your mpgs will fall exponentially the faster you drive. trust me.

another thing to look into Colin is whether you need to place "Not for Hire" stickers on the truck / trailer. i have seen chatter on the BMW forums regarding DMV issues. not sure they apply in NC however. the sheer size of that rig is going to get you noticed for sure. and yes, i am envious.
