Wow, this thread brings back some great memories. My brother and I were pretty into BMX back in the early to mid 80's. We spent quite a few Sundays racing at the old BMX track off Capital Blvd (was called Downtown Blvd back then). I was more into arial stuff on quarter/half pipes, skate parks (we spent a lot of time at the old skate park in N. Raleigh), and natural ramps - here's the only photo I could dig up from that timeframe - a very blurry shot of yours truly at a natural ramp in Garner, circa 1983:

No doubt the trials riders are sick as shit.

It was in a large open dirt lot on the NW corner of Timber Drive and Aversboro Road.

Best I could tell, sometime prior to finding it a large amount of earth was removed from the center of the lot, leaving a very high, steep wall along one side with a long downhill approach. It was a near-perfect natural quarter pipe when we found it, my brother and I just had to spend a few minutes with shovels cleaning up the transition a bit.

Right behind the Heather Hills pool... I know it well we probably were there together at one point... :) I probably have a similar picture some where.

It's a small world, indeed.

I figure you would've been in diapers in the early 80's, no?

I feel left out. :( While we had BMX and skateboarding in WV when I was a teen, I spent my youth jumping real trucks off dirt piles and in general abusing the family vehicles.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
