As someone who's formative years coincided with the formative years of BMX and BMX Freestyle... I just found out about this DVD, bought it, and spent the last two nights watching it and the extras on it:

http://www.joekidonastingray.com/

Even if you're not a rider, it's a great documentary about the history of BMX and BMX freestyle... akin to the Dogtown & Z Boyz doc, but about the bike scene.

Lots of great interviews with most of the pioneers of the sport... All the Osborns (Oz, R.L., Windy), Bob Haro, Stu Thompson, Perry Kramer, Mike Dominguez, Eddie Fiola...

Lots of pretty amazing and rare footage, especially of some of the flatland stuff that sadly doesn't get the TV attention that the street & ramp stuff gets.

Brought back TONS of old memories for this 38 year old.

Oh yeah... and if you didn't see these on my FB page, you might also be interested in the pics I took at New Bern's Mumfest a couple weeks ago during the King BMX Stunt show (also at the NC State Fair right now!):

I didn't BMX, but I've got a strong appreciation for it and a really good friend who was huge into it, so I'm really glad you posted this. I doubt I make the Fair this year, but I'll bet my buddy will knowing that the stunt guys are out there. :) Also ordered that DVD.

Here's a little three berm section we just built on my trails at home that BMXers can appreciate. I ride it with a mountain bike, but it's been hit now with a BMX bike, too.

Yeah... King BMX Stunt show is owned/operated by Keith King from Durham. He's a couple years older than me and went to Jordan High (I went to Northern), so our paths rarely crossed (he remembers riding with me, but I've got no recollection of riding with him LOL), but I did get one of his flatlanders into the sport... Anthony Brogden

I'd like to think had I not hurt my knee that maybe I'd still be riding... guess we'll never know!

I used to ride flatland with keith king at the tennis court near his house in Durham all the time!

He is a BMW fan and has a lawnmower with flames on it.

Reminds me of the little wood berm section of 286 but a little burlier. :D

BMX got me through college I truly believe. It's crazy technical and big these days and I don't see it slowing down. Here's a buddy of mine that's one the guys pushing the envelope.

I was a huge flatland fan. I love watching people do it and vids.

Btw I've got a haro bike for sale if Anyones interested. A few years old but pretty darn new. I used to try flatland on a mongoose bike I bought from Walmart when I was at Ecu. The BMX scene was pretty big there.

Brings back memories. I grew up on a bike. Had a Haro Sport and GT. I think they are still in my parents garage.
We used to practice flatland until dusk every day. Finding stupid stuff to jump until we built a half pipe in a buddy's back yard. (His parents had to be insane)
I remember pouring over the BMX mags and the debates about BMXers vs. Skaters.
Who was it that pulled off the first backflip? Dominguez? Anyway, now everyone does that and more. It's amazing how high the bar has gotten.

Hugo Gonzalez! (I think... then again... maybe not)

This was in my back yard... until I hurt my knee on it and most of the frame work became the start of a new back deck on the house LOL

But speaking of Dominguez... this was the last bike show I attended... after him and Woody Itson switched to Diamond Back... (Mike did it much better than I did LOL.)
