While you guys were watching Glee I discovered Hd Theater. They have some great classic car and motorcycle stuff. Also, have you guys seen on Two Guys Garage them stuffing an LS3 into a 1990 M3, maybe VK would even like that Beamer.

Yep, I discovered that channel too. It does have good stuff on it

As opposed to listening to some 'expert' critic who tells you something that sold less is better? I can decide for myself what is 'better' and I don't need sales figures or a critic to help me. Besides music taste is quite subjective wouldn't you agree?

Completely. I was saying that people are sheep in general. If you think Kenny G is music have at it. I just don't think that sales results from different eras can be compared.

Music's appeal has to include situation and company. Kenny G has it's place and Bob Marley, Pink, and Shania Twain have their's.

That said, there is no place that I can think of for the 'live music' at the Armory in Camden last weekend, but there's always an exception.

Back on subject. Steve raises an excellent question. I have had this discussion with others. Is the age of rock and roll the Golden age of music? Will it be like Gregorian Chants, repeated for hundreds of years because it can not be improved upon? Is it because early rock spoke of love and life in a softer gentler way that does not offend the audience as a whole. For example, compare the following lyrics:

"I wanna hold your hand" vs

"She likes to pull my hair when I make her grind her teeth" (For those unfamiliar, see the entire lyrics here http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/theo ... riend.html )

Which song are you happy playing in front of your Grandmother or grandchild?

Put on top of that, I understand that musically the Beatles were geniuses. I have had explained to my by Musical Theory people and don't understand it but believe it.

Beer is Steve's mind expanding drug, mine is coffee.

Music video destroyed Rock-n-Roll.

Think about it, music was great when it was the unattractive people performing it.
Billy Joel, Kevin Cronin (REO), Rush, Aerosmith, U2, even the Beatles.
Their music made them more attractive. (Well maybe not Geddy Lee:)

Now everything is manufactured, sung by America's next top model.
Are Miley Cyrus, Brittany Spears and the like really that talented?
Not to say that any of that type of music can't be enjoyed.
I've been infected by some of that drivel and caught myself in a 'whoa what the hell am I listening to' moment. Some of it can even be considered a guilty pleasure, like a bad movie you really enjoy.

Point is, it's different now. I think grunge may have been the last musical movement that spoke to people, an FU to the Man, and that ultimately became part of the machine, like Alternative did before it.

Maybe it's age and we have become our parents.
Anyway, I'm sticking with the ugly people.

MTV ruined the music video. Mick & Keith, Roger & Pete, not really pretty people either.

personally, i think The Black Crowes were the last Rock-n-Roll band. now the bands are all whining about how terrible there lives are; poor, poor me. waaaaaah, i need to go to rehab, waaah, my girlfriend is a coke-head. waaaah, my parents never hugged me.

self-absorbed dribble.

If pretty people destroyed the music world, we need more Lemmy's from Motorhead and all the guys from The Clash. Talk about some genetic masterpieces. Those guys make Geddy Lee look like a GQ model.

Ah, the Crowes, probably my favorite band of all time. If you didn't catch their show last month in Raleigh, you missed a good one. There are other one's still out there Steve. Check out anything Warren Haynes is involved with, most importantly, Gov't Mule.

Warren and Derek Trucks band show I saw was probably the only show I've been to where alcohol etc was not absolutely necessary to have a good time. Honestly, I think just being associated with the Allmans in the least means you are going to be an amazing musician....sure hasn't been proved wrong yet ;). Good stuff :).

You guys just got old. :) I'm sure your parents said the same thing when those "damn hippies" stopped cutting their hair. :) Mine started saying after they cut their hair and let it grow back out again, without the perm.

That said I'm starting to like less and less new music. The vast majority of music I'd rather listen to is music that either came out when I was in 5-12th grade or are by bands that were in their prime during that period and didn't go off the deep end. Green Day I'm looking at you there.

It all comes down to what you listen to. If you liked music in the 90s, all that music is still there. A lot of the popular bands from that period are releasing albums as well: STP, Black Crowes, Alice in Chains, Monster Magnet for some off the top of my head examples.

Record companies ruined the popular music scene. Corporate America decides what is going to be popular now. Have some really catchy songs written with a formula with just enough edge to make your parents mad (Nickleback) looks like a guaranteed success, pay to play it to the top!

I started writing this pre-morning coffee so if it make no sense, too bad.
