Some of you have heard us talk about Toyota's Grassroots parts program...

I just picked up my new 6 speed transmission for the GTS yesterday, and aside from some delivery issues (the shipper didn't have my phone number, so it sat on a loading dock for a while), the new part is great.

I ordered a "transmission." What came is a transmission with *all* the parts attached (I'm almost suprised an engine wasn't attached). It has the clutch fork with release bearing already installed and the contact points pre-lubed. It has a slave cylinder on it (now a spare), I didn't look, but I'm 99% certain it has the speed sensor already in place.

Cost? Well, I don't know, because they still haven't billed me yet (free?). Really though, I expect it won't be cheap (probably just over $1000), but it's brand new, and when you figure the cost of repair for a 60,000 mile one, it's really a good deal. I can now rebuild the old one in my spare time.

Looks like I have a project for the weekend. I'm sure Rice will attest to the 2nd gear grind, I managed to crunch things around the first turn pretty much every run.

Beware next event, Sally and I will have fresh tires, and will be able to shift gears!

Scott

I wonder if you could order a body "in white" from Toyota.

New tranny is in (thanks Aaron and Wes for lending a hand!). It turns out that it did not come with a speed sensor, but everything else was there.

Car is running and shifting great now, turns out the rear motor mount bracket was also loose/cracked (my fault, long story). Now that annoying lurch is gone when getting off the gas. Killed two birds with one stone, and got to use the welder yet again!
