James May now claiming he was the Stig ... tongue in cheek of course

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/col ... is....html

As you guys probably know, the old Stig wanted to write a book and got sideways with the BBC since his identity would be revealed ... hence this story.

Bingo x100000000!

I'm sure the producers tell them to pretend to be rivals and talk some terrible smack, but good god, they have to get rid of Paul Tracy STAT if they want that show to survive. Also, they need cooler driving element comparisons given the caliber of cars they get to drive.

I used to think that Foust was a little dorky, but he'd drive circles most people and he cleaned up at the X-Games. I guess not everyone could be as cool & cavalier as Jesse James, of course until, well things went south for him. :toilet:

I'm sure the producers drive some of that (annoying IMO) banter, but whatever Tanner says he can usually back it up, morso than PT at least.

Obviously I watch the show for the cars, but unfortunately I have to put up with PT's mouth to do so.

I actually like Tanner (he is no Clarkson, but who is). Paul Tracy gets on my nerves.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I don't see how a US show could replicate the charm of Top Gear UK, which is based on the interactions of the 3 hosts.

Clarkson is very entertaining on camera, but I'm guessing in real life he'd be someone one could only take in small doses.

Paul Tracy is better using his hands as weapons than he is at driving with them. The show would be OK if it didn't have the stupid announcer/producers and I agree better tests. Foust is dorky but he drives better than Tracy.

A US Top Gear would never work, it would be too overhyped/over advertised and too PC.

It will be interesting to see what if any NDA they might want you to sign. Also while a "meet and greet" might not be on the official schedule, I wouldn't be surprised if something informal happens. ;)
