Like I said, It wouldn't go over well... I'm not assigning blame to the cop. I'm simply saying that this is proof of why cruising in the passing lane is a bad idea. The kid could've easily crashed into the back of him instead, resulting in a much different outcome for the cop.
you aren't? it certainly seems like you are.
Maybe my hatred of how SOME cops act is showing through, but go back and read what I said. I'll try to word it so that it doesn't assign blame. Basically this illustrates why it's a bad idea (one of many) to cruise in that lane. IF the cop had been in a different lane, he/she would've been able to pull the speeding driver over and hopefully taken his license, instead of peeling him off of the pavement.
Of course, that's assuming it was a joy ride and not something more sinister.
Additionally, had the driver decided to not swerve off the road to avoid the cop camping out in the passing lane, this story would've been considerably different as well.
I'll stop arguing this point now.
I am with you on the cruising thing Jason, but the argument of "If nobody is in the left lane, it prevents wrecks because maniacs have a dedicated high speed lane for their own use" is not an argument. I am putting words in your mouth, but as far as I can tell that is pretty much how I think your argument is coming across.
If we want to play the "what if" game, "if" the police had not been cruising in the left lane, maybe he would have driven a few more miles, lost control on his own and then crashed into a bus full of orphans in the far right hand lane. Then again maybe the crash caused enough of a disturbance in "The Force" that in a galaxy far, far away Jimmy didn't fall down a well.
I hope the driver recovers.
