Can Chevy produce a *pushrod* 3L V-10 that revs to 18500 rpm? Or are they going to embrace the 1980s and learn about OHCs?

Okay a Ford guy is picking on the use of a pushrod engine

Yeah cause ford has embraced the whole OHC in their V8's for all of 5 yrs or so.

And just to add more fuel to the fire  I'll be the first to say I think the whole drive fast, turn left, repeat 100-200 times is pretty pointless and boring to watch.

I'm just saying that Chevy had such a bad time manufacturing engines for the Indy cars last season that they a) had to get the rules changed midseason and b) had Ford/Cosworth make their engines for them.

Rumor has it that GM might move into F1. Hmmmm

But would they spend enough and stay long enough to be a success. :) Toyota is evidence that you just can't buy your way in. It takes time. Ford is an example that if you take your time, but don't spend the money you aren't going to go anywhere as well.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Damn Jim.

Just a little sensitive aren't we?

I do know that Jr's car was
a) about 6 or 7 seconds off the pace of Jeff Gorden (who was also there and in my opinion can drive a road course really well) Gorden was running 1:32's while Jr was running 1:38's

Oops, I’m not sure how you read all that into my response. I guess I forgot to use some emoticons or something.

How’s this:

To borrow from the quote under your user ID, that's just crap!

Or this:

To borrow from the quote under your user ID, that's just crap!

Or even this:

To borrow from the quote under your user ID, that's just crap!

Wait, I got it, this one:

To borrow from the quote under your user ID, that's just crap! :moon:

Heck, I don't know, pick which ever one makes you feel better… :P

Seriously, I was just picking at the line that Jason put under your user id and relating my first-hand experiences with Dale Jr. I know he didn’t start out as a great road course racer. But who has? As any decent driver would do, he practiced and got better over time.

As I would be the first to admit, oval racing and road course racing don’t share the exact same skill set and being good at one sure doesn’t imply you’re immediately good at another (in either direction).

Given that you don’t know the circumstances that surrounded your observations of his road course performance, you’re still making a lot of assumptions. Maybe his line was partially dictated by the setup he was using? Maybe something was up with his car? Maybe he just stunk? We don’t know and it’s silly to assume that if somebody is off the pace that he automatically needs “driving lessons”. Your words, not mine. Heck, I’m not even a huge Jr. fan but I’ll certainly give him credit for his driving ability without which he wouldn’t be where he is regardless of his last name.

If that’s being sensitive, I’m guilty. That’s actually funny to me since I just got accused of being rather insensitive recently by my significant other. But that’s a whole different story...

Oops again, how's this: But that's a whole different story... :whoknows:

Jim
- who definitely isn’t a fan of Wonder Boy but knows his name is spelled “Gordon”

Would you be a fan if Chevrolet didn't steal him?

I for one would not. Jeff's Busch ride was a Ford when he drove the Baby Ruth car. If Hendrick ever switched to Ford I wouldn't pull for Gordon any longer. I'm a Chevy fan all the way!

Watching the Michael Schumacher " parade " of the last fews years seems pretty boring and pointless to watch. If you want to use the argument that I obviously don't understand what's involved in F1, then be prepared to hear the same argument from the NASCAR people. Can't we all just be motorsports fans?

Sure, just as long as we recognize that *real* race cars don't wear bowties. :P

I agree with the last part (can't we all just get along...) but you lost me on the rest. :)

Jr. would be the first to tell you he did suck on road courses until about the last two years. He spent a lot of the off season between his 2nd and 3rd season in WS at Bouderant's school learning how to turn right and left so he wouldn't throw away the two road events in chasing a championship. Boris drives for DEI when they field an extra car at Watkins Glen and California and has also spent a lot of time working with Jr on road course work, so the matchup would be expected, not done for publicity, I'd expect the facilities and engineers at DEI are also heavily involved. He's come a LONG way in the last couple years.
