The refrig is a Kenmore side-by-side. Have the model no. in my car, can post it later - seem to recall it starts with 253.

Yes, Vincent is correct, there is one cooling unit that cools the freezer side directly, then cold air is vented through to the fridge via a flapper/fan system. I looked at it myself before calling someone to repair it but didn't have time to troubleshoot at the time - in hindsight, I'm sure I could've figured it out for myself with a little research. Heaven knows I've troubleshot plenty of other appliance issues, just wasn't feeling all that confident about working on a fridge as I typically stay away from anything involving freon. Since this was cooling-related, I automatically thought freon issue, but, in hindsight, it appears there are no freon issues.

While I generally avoid paying anyone to do something I can do, sometimes life just gets too busy to work on everything that breaks myself. Then hassles like this remind me that it's usually worth making the time to fix everything I can myself.
