Vincent, is there usually a DD shuttle? I know some buddies that own Zingo. I could bring it up to them when I see them.

There has been talk of that in the past, but it has never happened that I know of. It would certainly be a good idea though.

We all know that eastern style is the best anyways

That's right John. BBQ Lodge honestly isn't too shabby up on Capital. They have a drivethru too when you're pressed for time and want something unhealthily delicious for lunch that's quick for $6.

Wow, never realized they have a drive-through.

Does it make me an old fart to say that you can't mention Triangle BBQ without mentioning Bullock's? C'mon people!! Beats anything I've had here in the east... even Bill Ellis... IMHO.

It has been years since I have been to the Roast Grill. When I went there the original owner still worked there. You could have a hot dog and a coke. You could have what you wanted on your hot dog if the old lady though that was a good combo of toppings otherwise you got what she thought you really wanted. Last time I ate there was when Raleigh was stopped by 3 inches of snow. Nothing was open but the Roast Grill. The owners lived upstairs. This place has been there longer than the original Char Grill by about 10 years.

For BBQ I was sad when Murrays BBQ on Old Poole Rd.( not Don Murrays ) closed. They still cooked their pork with wood.

Nope. Good BBQ is found west. The MIDwest. Stop driving about the time you get to Kansas City.

BBQ =/= Pulled Pork and Vinegar

We tend to frequent Red Hot and Blue in Raleigh mostly - they have some of the better, and consistently good, ribs in the area.

Nope. I'm a Yankee - grew up in MN, did a stint in KS, <3 yrs in FL, and 11 yrs ago I drove 10 hours north to get into The South.

Malia's uncle (from KS) switched from dirt track racing to doing BBQ competitions around the US, and has multiple wins. He doesn't do BBQ "NC style". That's all I'm saying :D

Godwin's law says your thread has run its course when Hitler is mentioned. I think it's safe to add to that "when you start debating BBQ." :D

I love it all if it's done well. Found some excellent stuff in Texas, but it's beef. Some awesome stuff in Memphis. Killer stuff in KC. And of course, plenty around good ole' NC.

On our way out to Nationals in 2008, Eric and I stopped by a place in Kansas City called Woodyard BBQ. It. Was. Epic. There haven't been many times that I've ordered lunch somewhere, and liked it so much that I ordered a second lunch of the exact same thing. I had a burnt ends sandwich. Like Donnie, I don't think that one genre is "better" than the other. What I will say, though, is that that lunch - excuse me, those lunches - at Woodyard were among the best meals I've ever eaten. Ever.

Eric has an eye for places like this. We now make a point of stopping at "The Crazy Cajun" on the way back from DC. It's basically a house with an oversize kitchen. There is no indoor seating. There's only one bathroom. And none of that matters, because the food ROCKS. "Rib Sandwich" FTW. Ribs, stacked between three pieces of gummy white bread, slathered with whatever sauce you want. Awesome.

I agree Donnie, good BBQ can be found all over the usa. I have had some great BBQ in KC as well as Memphis. The best BBQ beef I have ever had was in Dallas.

I just think eastern NC style BBQ is my fav(best) 8)

The burnt ends at the Woodyard might be some of the best food on earth. And the place is basically a dive in a crap part of town. It's crazy.

I'm beginning to realize that dives in unlikely locations often have really killer food.

Well sure. Otherwise there'd be nothing good to eat in Durham, for example. ;)
