There's been rumors of this for months, so it will be good to see some sort of official announcement later this week. Is there a separate class they could be competitive in? I can't see even a souped up MINI keeping up with an STi.

Subaru's been out of WRC since last year...mainly a Ford/Citroen affair since. The no turbo rule for 2011 gets enforced next year, making Subaru or Mistu less than likely to return.

I hear Toyota may get back in for 2011 also, so that makes four manufacturers...

Interesting. That makes it even harder for MINI, since their base engine HP is 130, and which wasn't even going to be an option for the 4WD Countryman, their supposed rally platform.

Still, I'd love to see a stock Countryman in rallycross just like we see stock WRX's.

With no turbo, I wonder what tricks ProDrive will be doing to beef up the powerplants?

The no turbo rule is apparently limited to 2011 and 2012, slated to return in 2013. I suppose limiting turbos can reduce team development, R&R costs, and allow other manufacturers (peugeot, Skoda etc) to get in on the action as well. We'll see. My interest in WRC has faded since it has become a 2-make, 4-driver series although I still enjoy the highlights on HD Theater...

The cars will be basically the S2000 spec cars. They make a neat noise but not nearly as fun to watch. RIght now there are 3 manuf. running in the SWRC: Skoda, Fiat, and Ford. In the past VW and Toyota had factory backed S2000 cars running in the south african rally championship but I have not seen their cars run since. There are some other factory backed S2000 teams in euro rally championships that could be drawn to the wrc once the new rules are implemented. SHould be interesting.

Seb was quoted saying he would quit rallying when they start using the S2000 cars. I look forward to the day he quits.

I was a little bit confused by all of the articles mentioning using a 1.6L turbo motor, but it looks like that's what the teams have agreed to use. No 2L NA motors.

MINI starts in with official marketing bluster:

http://is.gd/ekr2X

I'm looking forward to seeing a dust covered MINI screaming through the dust, even if it does come in last.
