the validity of that statement is directly proportional to how much money you have, and how little time in which to spend it.

+1.

And the "Enjoyment/Satisfaction Value" attained by doing (or not doing) the action in question.

Back OT...I have heard that some special tax/accounting rules apply to having hired help that is not contracted through a company. I suspect you'd have to make sure the individual is licensed/bonded as an Independent contractor or something like that. Maybe doublecheck with your tax specialist to make sure you don't end up owing your housekeeper benefits (and the gubmint an extra 7.5% for taxes)

Yeah, I didn't want to engage my work brain on this thread but, since you bring it up. If anyone doing work on your property does not have General Liability and Workers Comp you are responsible for any screw ups. Either to your home, but this is the big one, any injuries they sustain while working at your home.

Unless HE has insurance and is bonded, since he fell off YOUR roof, YOU get the pleasure of paying his medical bills....IIRC an umbrella policy will help cover some of these expenses*

*please speak with a qualified insurance professional and or legal counsel as the abovementioned statement should not be construed as binding legal advice because "Dammit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an insurance agent/accountant/lawyer/whatever."

Curious if anyone knows if this is accurate even in cases where said person is not authorized by you to be on your property.

Cline should probably answer this but I think the answer is yes, even if they are not authorized although some may be abated by age and where. For Example, if you have a Swimming Pool that has no fence and the 3 yo neighbor kid comes over and jumps in without reading the "NO Trespassing" sign you are liable for having an attractive nuisence. The reason you are supposed to ask for the proof of WC and bonding from contactors is to ensure that they have insurance to cover on the job accidents - otherwise you may be responsible for Sanchez or Smith or Williams or anyone else who is injured.

This reminds me to see what my umbrella covers.......

bonding is a whole different area of responsibility as i understand it. bonding covers materials and loss of property.

comp and liability insurance cover injury and accidental damage to property.

i think Cline is between points A & B at the moment.

Keeping our house clean is part of my family's stewardship responsibility.

Can we swap families? Because these people are leaving crap *everywhere*. And as far as I can tell, the cat and the dog have no sense of responsibility for their loose hair/excess bodily fluids *whatsoever*. The only stewardship I have detected from the dog is her willingness to clean the cat box. At least I can be grateful for that :)
