Cline I didn't saw you at the ring yesterday, but there was a few Mini and fairly quick one too, but they didn't pass me.
Even when I manage to break the shifter and getting stuck in 3rd gear ( the cable had came off at the tranny end ) they didn't pass me back.
I will report more on my Ring day on a separate tread.
Talking of cute car the Fiat 500 is a cute one.

Autocross or not, a porsche should still beat a mini.

That isn't necessarily so. If the course makes the P-car slow down to get through an element more than the Mini and it balances off the fast parts, it could be an even match.

Now on the full RA course, no way. I knew there would be a catch, like the P-car had to run in 2nd gear or it wasn't allowed to brake, or ...

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

You're right there. Its still funny, but MINI is getting carried away. It seems plausible that MINI is going to set up an autocross course with enough tight turns to make for a competitive event, and forget to mention that in advertising counting on the fact that most people don't know or don't care about the difference between an autocross course and a road course.

Doesn't anyone else think that pretty much anything in the current Porsche lineup could beat a JCW Cooper at even a tight autocross course anyway? Except maybe the Cayanne..

I'd add the non-turbo Panameras to that list too.

Just quickly glancing at last year's SCCA Solo nationals results, the newest plain Porsche 911 I could find, a 2004, had a time of 61.58s, and the fastest MINI Cooper S was 60.65. The GT3s were much faster, of course, and there were a bunch of slower and older Porsches. Unless I'm reading the results incorrectly, of course....

obviously there isn't a single person on this thread that understands marketing. win or lose, Mini creates "BUZZ".

"BUZZ" sells product. realistically the demographics of the two brands are on opposite ends of the spectrum. i don't think Mini actually thinks they will be stealing prospective Porsche buyers.

it is a completely ridiculous ad campaign and i believe that is Mini's plan anyway. i think it is marketing genius.
