What a great marketing idea. For the record, I have lost count of all the Porsche's that have spun out in front of me because they didn't want some little grocery getter passing them.

Same with a Spec Miata at a Porsche Club DE. I especially love point-bys from frustrated Turbo owners. :)

I dont think the mini has what its going to take to win this. I think they will loose it in the straits.

Either way, im rooting for the mini and cant wait to hear the results... providing Porsche isnt scared of what it would mean to loose.

This is going to be a blast to watch! I would be funny if they actually set up the race on a go-kart track next to the road track, or if there was some other catch. No one actually thinks the JCW MINI is going to beat a modern 911 with equally skilled drivers, do they? (Even the non-turbo version.)

Cline, I can challenge you next Sunday? I will be driving a 996, 10am at the Nurburgring.

i know it was only in green group, but some years ago i ran an 89 gti 16v with PCA and it was soooooo much fun getting point by's on the back straight at VIR and they'd actually have to apply the brakes to let me by...hahaha

Maybe the MINI has had serious upgrading past the normal JCW level?

Same here. It was my one and only HPDE in my Civic. My instructor would tell me "gas, gas" when exiting Oak Tree. I would tell him I was peddling as fast as I could. 100 HP, no torque and two 200+ lbs people is not a recipe for quick acceleration in that car. But otherwise, I was eating up the Boxster in front of me everywhere, except the front and back straight. Every car had to lift to let me by.

Regarding the Mini vs. the 911. It is a great marketing idea by Mini as the likelihood of Porsche accepting is pretty small. I think Porsche has nothing to gain and everything to loose.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

bingo...Porsche has nothing to gain at all, so why even take the chance. and what's more, the Mini guys know that Porsche will never go for it, so he can talk it up as much as he wants...the race will never happen.

and if for some reason it does, when Mini loses, all they have to do is point at the sticker prices of both cars and say, "well, it's a Porsche, what did you expect".
