I'd like to know how to open this. There are no seams on the side, so everything has to slid out of the end of the case. There are 2 small flanges on the end of the case that hold everything in. I'm clueless as to how to get to the inside. Even if I was to get it out, I have no way to test what is bad, I'm just not that talented to diagnose electrical stuff...
If you're still interested in trying to repair it, best bet is to search on youtube for ipod nano repair instructions - based on my recent experience with my daughter's Ipod Touch, I'm sure there's plenty of useful video instuctions out there. BTW, I have the plastic tools needed for opening an ipod touch, not sure if they're the same as needed for a nano, but if so, you're welcome to borrow them.
In my case, one of my dogs recently bit into my daughter's ipod touch, cracking the screen. In looking over the unit, it was not obvious how to get it apart, but a quick search on youtube came up with lots of videos showing how it's done. In short, I was able to do the repair myself with a $25 screen kit from eBay.
