I say we should take the opposite approach, and go at this problem using a Libertarian and Tea Party point of view. Let's reduce the size of government by getting rid of driver's licenses, driving instruction, and traffic laws. Right now the federal government is infringing upon our right to drive where, when when and at what speed we want. Imagine not getting speeding tickets, and not being taxed to pay for expensive stop signs and stop lights!
Don't forget to get rid of federal and state highway funding/building/repair, the FDA (who needs drug and medical device safety), FAA, Military (remember the second amendment - firearms are so that we can have self regulated militias), Border Patrol, Fire departments, building inspections, local police (see second amendment),CDC (epidemics are a good way to keep population under control), Social Security (the Stock Market is so much more reliable), Medicare (old folks live too long anyway these days), the EPA (who really needs clean air, water), the SEC (the great depression was such a great thing . . . ask your parents/grandparents), the Fed Reserve (bankers always take care of their customers first, Customs, FCC (first come first served for all frequencies every day everywhere would be such fun), the Patent Office (who need intellectual property rights . . . justa as China), CPSC (who cares about kid safety), Civil courts (fight it out), etc.
As I look at the list I see lots of areas for improvement and none that should be abolished.
