hey gang... I'm looking for a used digital camera for my son. I'd like something along the line of what I currently have, a Canon rebel XT. Anyone have something similar to this? If you just have a body for sale, that's fine to. He's an art major at ECU and is in need of a decent SLR.

Let me know please.

My wife had a Canon 50D.....it's pretty nice. Canon's top of the line crop body DSLR at the moment. High ISO performance is great. Large screen...takes CF cards. Flash is garbage like all other DSLRs.

If he's going to be serious about photography, you can probably get a full frame 5D Mk1 body for under $1000 now because the new edition is out.

Anyway, I would say focus the bulk of your purchasing power on the glass and not the body. Also don't get too worked up over mega pixel numbers. I will guarantee a Rebel XSi with some good L glass will take better shots than a 5D with a 'kit' lens.

I agree, but I need a camera to start with. I'm looking for a faster lens myself, so I can give him some of my old lenses. I can't afford to buy him high $ stuff right now, so just sticking w/ the basics.

Buy the most recent Rebel body that fits your budget.

Cameras aren't an investment, but glass is.

what they said. If you are looking used, i see nikon d90 and d80's all over craigs list. There are also two camera shops in the area, one on pease st and another in carborro.

I have an old pentax film camera, with a few lenses flash and some other goodies. I also have a cannon reble film (both SLRs). If you want to go old school of course. :lol:

Yeah, peace st camera is a great place, bought several things from there. I'll pass on the film stuff, I have a few old film SLR's myself. Digital is so much easier and no cost for processing pics.... remember, I'm dealing w/ a poor and broke college student :wink:

NIB Sony DSLR-A500 with 18-55mm kit - $700

I have a NEW IN BOX Sony Alpha DSLR-A500L (comes with an 18-55mm lens). I won this camera through a photo contest. However, I already have a DSLR Camera and don't need another SLR. I just got this in the mail from Ritz Camera. It's currently sitting on my counter, begging me to open it and start snapping away. This camera kit retails for $750 dollars (plus taxes and shipping) but you can buy it from me for $700. For any interested parties outside of the Washington DC area, we will have to make shipping arrangements.

Review of the camera: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0908/09082 ... 50a500.asp

Canon 300D (EOS Digital Rebel) digital SLR - $275

I have a Canon Digital Rebel (EOS 300D) (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contr ... delid=9430) that I no longer use and would like to sell. I'm the original owner; I bought this new in 2004.

Included:
* Camera body, 6.3MP, uses Compact Flash media. 7000 exposures. Shutter mechanism rebuilt by Canon 2 years ago; used very lightly (< 200 exposures) since.
* Original EFS 18-55mm lens
* Canon BG-E1 battery grip - holds two batteries and has controls for taking pictures while rotated 90 degrees
* two after-market Li-ion batteries, AC charger
* RC-1 remote infrared shutter release
* EOS DIGITAL camera strap
* Canon camera bag with padded strap, padded compartments
* USB cable
* TV out video cable

The camera is is excellent working order and is great for someone starting out with digital SLRs. Some of the black rubberized coating has peeled off of the handgrip area, and the rubber on the lens exterior is faded/greying, but both are only only cosmetic. The rubber eyecup around the viewfinder is missing.

You can buy a similar kit (used) for $300 +$20 shipping on eBay, but I also include the RC-1 remote and a nice Canon camera bag.
