Especially with the use of plastic pedals. You can't just grab them with a big set of pliers and bend into a new position.

This is clearly why we need pedal covers to be legal in stock class autocross!

This from the article:

Specifically, the Senate bill would require automobiles to be able to stop within a certain distance, even with an open throttle, a priority with safety advocates for many years.

Maybe they could put a little device that would put the car in neutral if the throttle sticks. Wonder what that would be called? I am so glad that Jay Rockefeller is up in Washington protecting me

Can someone clear something up for me?

For all of the other NHTSA rules we have, like seatbelts, airbags, etc ... were those all started as a Senate Bill, or does NHTSA have some autonomy for automaker regulations? And if NHTSA is the group which should be doing this, why is the Senate involved?

I only ask because I have been learning a LOT lately about the kind of hidden agenda items that get bundled with Senate bills and it's deeply troubling.

If the NHTSA should be doing this, and if I find that Congress is trying to bundle anything beyond the simple pedal-gap mandate, I am prepared to go Postal on our senators and reps.

And they better give Congress more than 15 minutes to read the bill. And they better let us read it for more than 36 hours like the last big bill that got passed.

Sure, but it will be added to the list of bad topics.

There is a hidden agenda for more Federal government control. Some might call it Socialism. Both parties are guilty not just the Democraps.

Our freedoms are being gradually taken away. It will get much worse before it gets better, but I believe we will eventually return to the America our founders intended.

It is just one more intrusion on us by the nanny-state and lawyers and the general victims..er I mean public. Something goes wrong and of course it can't be their fault.

The government then intrudes - Democrats, Republicans they all do. If they were really concerned with vehicle safety then they should mandate to states that they have to provide comprehensive driver instruction to new drivers, have people who are in multiple at-fault accidents have to go through real remedial training, better police who gets drivers licenses and improve enforcement of stuff that really kills people on roads - not revenue producing red-light cameras.

Oh well, it will never happen .... :?
