Ok you bimmer heads out there, while coming back from lunch today I saw an e39 based BMW that was badged as a 550i. Looked nice and had all of the normal trim pieces blacked out. Is this a real bimmer?

I did a quick google search and this doesn't appear to be real....

What years are the e39 chassis cars? I have seen a few 550i's at work. - AB

The only ones I know of are E60 chassis 550i's. I enjoy parking very close to them at work-- I think they retail in the 60s....IIRC the E39 chassis had the 540i--Maybe the E39 owners did a swap of some kind?

I bet too it was a swap, or just a rebadge. - AB

Then yes, likely a swap. The 550i's I believe were offered in 2006+. - AB

Fake. Kind of an odd swap though, assuming someone actually did it. Replace a 4.4 liter V8 with a 4.8 liter? 300 HP to 360 or so?

Next time snap some pictures with your phone and let us see.
