Nice... I guess if they were flaggin on the front strech hopefully some one would have seen that and waved off the start....
The flagger could see that and shouldn't have started it. For sure.

Is this kind of contact typical for a spec race???? or do the miatia's bring it out in people???
This kind of contact did thousands of dollars in damage to six cars. If this was typical there wouldn't be anyone left to race with by mid-season.

Some contact is typical, and that's why a lot of us do choose a car with fenders. Otherwise there are some cheap formula car options.

Was this SCCA or NASA?
So EVERY car around him gets punted because he jumps out of line before the green......and its a racing incident?? Were the stewards at the race or did they phone in? Terrible decision by them.
This was SCCA. SCR, to be exact. He was protested for aggression (IIRC), jumping the start, and metal-to-metal. How in the world they didn't find him guilty of jumping the start, I don't know. I could see the others being subjective, especially since from other angles it appears the car to the far right DID move over on him and squeeze him. If he hadn't jumped the start he wouldn't have been there, though!
Here are the various other views...

P7, Giles:

P11, Brock:

Note that P5 and P11 probably had the most damaged cars there. P11, Brock, damaged his SECOND rental car from OPM in as many events, with the first being just a couple weeks before at Road Atlanta. Not sure if the first one was his fault or not.
Here's the first half of the 10 minute race that we got to run later. Note that we did a single file restart (duh!) and no, I did NOT jump the start. Giles just didn't go on the green.

Here's the second half (not much happens here...never could reel in the yellow car, and I left Giles behind):
