Yay, I missed it!

I qualified 9th out of 24, started fifth on the restart, and finished fourth in an abbreviated six lap sprint.

so they're throwing green on the back straight? nasa talked about doing that but decided that it would just make turn 11 the new turn 1.

Yeah, it's really stupid. What's worse is you're doing a half a lap with no pace car to keep things sane, too. And then you have starters throwing flags when cars are clearly not lined up...

*sigh*

I get what you're saying, but honestly that was the worst single incident I've seen in a LOT of SM racing. Six cars hit hard and only one even close to fixable for the next day. None of them are totaled, but the rest all need frame work, a couple of them significant frame work. One car looks like a boomerang.

Everyone get out ok? I didn't see any hard impacts but there were some cars spinning on the track as they went out of frame.

Man that was a stupid move did he #35 get any repercussions, or at least a talk from the race stewards?

Yeah, everyone walked away fine. There were some very damaging hits, but nothing that would hurt anyone with good gear, anyway.

Not only did they not go after him, they denied the protest against him by several of the competitors who did get severe damage. I was interviewed and they impounded my video, but they basically were explaining it away to me as a "racing incident." I was polite, but inside I was screaming. That guy deserves probation at best.

He told the fifth place guy before the race that he needed to "jump the start" to get past fourth. Not that he needed a "good jump", that he SPECIFICALLY planned to jump the start. That was passed on to the stewards, too. Unbelievable.

I'm done with SCR regionals, that's for sure.

All that carnage for a 13 dollar trophy.

Is this kind of contact typical for a spec race???? or do the miatia's bring it out in people???

Was this SCCA or NASA?

So EVERY car around him gets punted because he jumps out of line before the green......and its a racing incident?? Were the stewards at the race or did they phone in? Terrible decision by them.

The flagger could see that and shouldn't have started it. For sure.

This kind of contact did thousands of dollars in damage to six cars. If this was typical there wouldn't be anyone left to race with by mid-season. ;) Some contact is typical, and that's why a lot of us do choose a car with fenders. Otherwise there are some cheap formula car options.

This was SCCA. SCR, to be exact. He was protested for aggression (IIRC), jumping the start, and metal-to-metal. How in the world they didn't find him guilty of jumping the start, I don't know. I could see the others being subjective, especially since from other angles it appears the car to the far right DID move over on him and squeeze him. If he hadn't jumped the start he wouldn't have been there, though!

Here are the various other views...

P2, Fusner:

P7, Giles:

P11, Brock:

Note that P5 and P11 probably had the most damaged cars there. P11, Brock, damaged his SECOND rental car from OPM in as many events, with the first being just a couple weeks before at Road Atlanta. Not sure if the first one was his fault or not.

Here's the first half of the 10 minute race that we got to run later. Note that we did a single file restart (duh!) and no, I did NOT jump the start. Giles just didn't go on the green.

Here's the second half (not much happens here...never could reel in the yellow car, and I left Giles behind):
