Seems to me that if there are ANY questions about how to turn off the car then its a SERIOUS problem!

Maybe its time to go back to the dark ages. You know, back when an actual connection existed between things like the gas pedal and the engine. And a key that actually started (and stopped) the car.

and yeah, 61 is NOT old...you young fart!

Ron

IMO, this is the biggest issue. Getting rid of the ignition switch is just stupid. There's no other way around it. I'm guessing that they got the start button idea from race cars, which oddly enough come with a KILL switch. There's no kill switch on these street cars.

I also suspect that there are people that have no clue what "N" means on the transmission selector. What are they going to do if you tell them to put the car in Neutral. They've got no idea what that is, since it's not used in everyday driving.

...all of this is nothing having a clutch can't cure (one that you actually have a pedal for that is!). (and, yeah, of course I hate automatic transmission cars).

Chuck has hit the nail on the head. Don't buy a car without a clutch pedal and the problem is solved.

when speed racer was asked to put the car in neutral (911 operator) he said he did not want to for fear of the car "locking up".

is this something i am not aware of with an auto tranny?

if it were anywhere other than the greater LA area.................... Pelosi probably is behind this.

If I was "only" 61 I would be a young fart. We won't go into how "old" a fart I am . . .

It's a socialist plot.

No matter how unskilled and/or untested most drivers are, they have a LOT more training/testing than most parents are required to have before becoming parents. Fortunately for the world, I'm not a parent.

Dick talk about taking a HARD right turn!

Afraid of locking up the car by putting it in neutral eh? So now besides having to teach them how to control their cars we have to explain what neutral means?

How ever did he get out of his driveway? Lets see, put the car in R to back out then through N....damn, locked up the car. Lets start over.

Put it back in P. Start it again. Down to D....damn. Locked up AGAIN! .....Damned electric car. Never had this trouble with my Buick.

This thread reminds me of a kid in high school. He was a dope smoker and drove a Chevette. Kept his dope locked in the glovebox. He was driving somewhere and his buddy wanted at the dope, so instead of stopping he decided to just pull the key "right quick" while on a 55MPH two lane country road. So he pushed in the clutch and did that. Problem was a curve was coming up and he didn't get the key in fast enough. Steering wheel locked and he went off and hit a tree and totaled the car. Nobody was hurt. No idea if dope was spilled.

As for the sequential shift pattern, I can say for sure my Smart car's shifter is backwards from *all* race car shifters. Unsure how Porsche does it in street cars.

I have done this on several occasions. Minus the tree of course. And the dope. It's a bit nerve-racking.

I thought it meant "Bail". Select it, and you will be safely ejected from the runaway car.

P.S. Is the Prius a hatchback? Maybe that's why I hate it so much!?!?!?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
