Sometimes I wish I had a voice recorder that ran 24/7 and could be played back at any time so a variety of reasons. One that could play back the “statement” that someone later says the never did say. Even just for the humor of something. I really could have used it last night at Home Depot. Here’s the conversation heard in the adhesives isle.
Woman: Excuse me
Male Home Depot worker: Yes?
Woman: I am looking for a big caulk thing. I need it big because I am going to use it a lot. So where do you keep you big caulk thing?
MHPW: Ummm…yeah…umm…Over here? (points to the shelf with all the caulk).
Woman: (bright red) – OMG, did I just say that?

If I could have captured that on sound or video…..classic.

When I got out of college I was an assistant manager at a Roses in Durham.

I woman came up to the customer service desk. There were a couple of woman sales people there and me. I guess I looked all official so she directed her question to me. "Where do you keep your contreceptives? she asked.

My reply. In the drawer of the night stand. She did not think it was funny.

BTW Back in the day, roses did not sell contreceptive as they were a "family" store.

Had a short stint at Roses, huh?

I helped pay for college by working in a wedding band, in which $75 and dinner was money for 3 hours work compared to minimum wage of $2.75.

Anyway, we'd play covers of all sorts of things, and invariably people requested the song we just played, unaware that we played it. It sunk into their brains somehow and it would pop up as something they wanted to hear.

The flat rate pay thing didn't really work in the their favor though, as it was often expected that we'd play as long as people wanted to dance regardless of the time. Once it started getting late, on a signal we'd throw in an extra beat in the middle of a measure so that you couldn't tell anything was different, but the dancers would all now be off beat, look silly, and leave the dance floor. Bingo! Time to go home.

It was only one measure in 5/4 so no one would notice outright and complain, but dancers who had been bobbing up and down on the downbeat were now bobbing up and down on the upbeat, which is very unsettling. Repeat every 15 seconds until the dance floor is empty.
