Whenever it threatens to snow I get excited about finding big empty parking lots for some sideways action .... I mean to safely practice driving in low-grip situations, officer, you know, for safety.

I can't seem to find much on this side of town -- western Cary, 55 & High House. Not enough manufacturing or industrial parks.

Got any favorite spots that are free of obstructions and out of the eye of the law? Especially around here?

Mike (who must not have been doing enough rallycrossing lately)

My rallycross course is my favorite place to play in the snow. :P

I was going to start a thread to say that if anybody wants to come over and play sometime this weekend, to let me know. But I've been too lazy.

Oh, and there are tires marking the course in several places, so if you're a pussy stay home.

Hmmm... I'm putting the snows on the Subaru tonight ... if it's as bad as the say it's going to be and I'm looking for an adventure I might be up for a drive out there :)

FYI I scanned google maps, and I think Green Hope High parking lot has some potential, but I worry it's going to be a Cop Magnet...

This building was vacant for the first few years I had my driver's license in Troy, MI, and the 2nd story of the parking deck was a brilliant and hidden place to learn how to drive in the snow. Man I must have a lot of hours up there playing around...

Just be careful that whatever lot you pick you know what it looks like when it's dry. Nothing quite like sliding sideways at speed and hitting a curb you didn't know about.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I did this in college in my '86 Subaru GL 4WD when I was at school in Albany, NY. Just as an FYI, 4WD does not work all that well with a donut spare :) - AB

I have a "grass on the inside, house, cars, shop, well" on the outside skidpad in my front yard/circular driveway. If you know my address Google Maps it :D

I just tried to drive around and even with my diff set to 50/50 lock I couldn't gain traction. I'm using Pzero-nero's...wish I had true snow tires.

I did manage to do a few circles around the cul-de-sac though :)

Rebecca drove our OBS to work this morning. I think she had a little fun along the way. And by fun, I mean she scared the 3 co workers that rode in with her!!!

Hey, Todd,
Love the avatar--but shouldn't that be an alligator?

That's what I'm using on my WRX. It was pretty slippery on my trip to the rallyx course, down to the paved road, down a short section of road and back again. Just checking things out, still in my pajamas.

There's about an inch of whatever here (snow? sleet?) so nothing accumulated in the wheels or fenders.

I would say it's about equivalent to driving at Orange County Speedway rallyx site when it's raining. So not much fun on the rallyx course. Maybe with snow tires somebody could have fun.
