Here are some good reasons not to drive on corded tires in the rain:

The pictures kinda explain the story. I was wondering all day at the autox why I couldnt get ANY grip whatsoever, but was too busy with T&S to really worry about it. I noticed the cords but figured I could make it home if it didnt rain.

I was following Kevin Butler and Rob Keener home and about 4 miles from my house we hit a HUGE T-storm. The wind knocked a tree in the road, Kevin stopped but I couldnt. I slamed into the rear of his Miata. Everyone was ok, except for my wallet :(

You think this had anthing to do with it:

I hate it for you, Ryan. Hope it doesn't cost you too much to get it fixed.

Whats the phrase..." If I didn't have bad luk I'd have no luck at all"

That sux. But I think it was the Rcompunds more then anything to do with the cords that sucked in the rain.

Coming from a guy that wrecked two different cars within two days time about a 2 years ago, I can feel your pain. It definitely blows, yet at least you hit someone you're friends with ;) Hopefully you can afford to fix them both without involving insurance. If not, that's what insurance is for :) How did Kevin's Miata make out? - AB

In January, my new (to me) Miata spent a week on the jack stands while I performed a roll bar and harness installation. 2 days after getting it back on the road, Rob Keehner and I had an encounter with a Mack Truck. This was the result.

Repairs were minimal, junkyard fender and wheel - $235. Court letter from insurance company was presented to Craven County DA and failure to yield charge was dismissed.

In March, my Miata spent another week on the jack stands, this time for a new shock install. 2 days after getting the car back on the road, Rob Keehner and I have an encounter with Ryan Holton.
This was the result.

I think I got off a little lighter with the Mack Truck. There's a definite pattern here. What it means I'm not sure.

Things to avoid in the future:
1. Don't leave the car on jack stands for a week.
2. Don't do anything with the car the 2nd day after taking it down from jack stands.
3. No more rides for Rob Keehner!

It seems Miata owners like to personalize their rides by giving them names. I now think I have the name for my car...Bad Karma. Don't worry about things between Ryan and I. We'll be ok.

Ryan, what a terrible end to a great day. I'm sorry to see that happen. Budget transmission in Havelock still has two Talons sitting in front of their place. They were waiting to get titles from the state before they could sell them. You could try giving them a call at 252 447-1506. If they say that they were saving them for someone, it was probably me. I hope this can be of some help.
Vern

Ummm those WERE street tires :whoknows: Dunlop SP8000's

UPDATE:

Got the hood open and it seems that the radiator and AC condensor both survived the accident. Another 2" and it would have been.... :toilet: The radiator support is pushed back 3" or so on the drivers side, tomorrow Im gonna try and pull it out with a cumalong.

I guess it means no more working on the Miata, sounds like everytime you do it gets damaged.

That was the strangest 10 minutes of my life that didn't somehow include alcohol. And rollbars don't feel good on the noodle.

I had a headache today but I'm sure glad Kev padded that rollbar. Does this mean my head gets an SA2000 rating so I don't need to wear a helmet anymore during racing events.

Dammit. That sucks. What's with all the carnage in the last day or so? I blew out a tire on the trailer last night and a tree fell on the rally car.

Weird.

Hey if you guys want to start a "bad karma" collection I'd be happy to contribute $10 per crunched car. Make it a paypal account or something. Kevin, I'm not sure if you should be calling your insurance company twice in one quarter. Might not be worth it in the long run.

 to bad luck.

No cops or insurance were involved. I have 2 speeding tickets pending in court and I didnt want my insurance to equal the GDP of several 3rd world countries.

All repairs are on my dime :( It will still be cheaper in the long run....
