He didn't ask to throw him out, only for security to check him out. They probably screwed up in throwing him out, too. He was a little drunk and not in his proper seat, though apparently he *could* have produced a ticket for it as it was an empty seat belonging to some buddies. Hard to know if security even gave him a chance once they got him to the aisle, though.
Why did he need to be 'checked out' in the first place? I'm not clear on the 'whole' story it seems.
That's just it...he didn't. Apparently there was some very NASTY stuff that had just happened with Syracuse fans and UNC players in NYC that was fresh in Roy's mind. Combine that with a fan yelling at a UNC player from the VERY UNC section (as in most of those seats where this guy was are given out by the basketball office to friends and family, so Roy was pretty sure he wasn't in the right place...or worse, was a UNC fan that was yelling "miss it" at a UNC player for some strange reason). So Roy overreacted and yelled back at the guy to shut up. The guy said "who me?" And Roy said "yeah, you." So the guy puffed up his chest and pointed at his PC shirt and yelled "Go Presby!" or something similar.
Roy didn't like being challenged like that and then sent security after him. Bad move. Should have just left it alone. And he said as much.
The guy claims he wasn't drunk, but folks around him in the stands have said he definitely was. They also said he definitely didn't do anything to warrant getting thrown out, so I don't think they were defending Roy, per se. So in my mind everyone acted badly in the situation, but the cameras are on Roy, he's the head coach, and he just can't get down in the slop with the hog. Otherwise he's gonna get covered in mud, obviously.
