BMW has quietly introduced the new Z4 GT3.
Created by BMW's Motorsport division, the Z4 GT3 was built to compete in events such as the FIA GT3 European Championship, the International GT Open, and the ADAC GT Masters.
Power comes from a modified version of the M3's 4.0-liter V8 engine, equipped with a 408 ECU and a Power400 control unit. Thanks to these electronic tweaks, the V8 produces approximately 480 bhp.
Other performance goodies include a six-speed sequential transmission, racing anti-lock brakes (ABS), and "rims with locking and safety clips."
Set to go on sale in the second quarter of 2010, the Z4 GT3 has an estimated price of €298,000 ($427,000 USD).

press release:
Quote:
As part of its customer racing programme, BMW Motorsport is offering private teams another attractive car from 2010: the BMW Z4 GT3. This sports car is an impressive addition to the BMW product range and offers drivers and teams the opportunity to compete in international and national championships in accordance with GT3 regulations - such as the FIA GT3 European Championship, International GT Open and the ADAC GT Masters - as well as in 24-hour endurance races.

The BMW Z4 GT3 is powered by a four-litre, eight-cylinder engine producing approximately 480 bhp. When it comes to electronics, the private teams can look forward to innovative BMW solutions, which have proven themselves in the BMW M3 GT2: the engine is controlled by the modern ECU 408, while the Power400 control unit is responsible for operating all actuators. The transmission takes place via a sequential, six-speed gearbox. The scope of delivery also includes rims with locking and safety clips, as well as racing ABS and optional air conditioning.

The BMW Z4 GT3 in its racing version is available from the second quarter of 2010 at an estimated price of 298,000 Euro (plus VAT).

We looked at a used Z4 this weekend. I think I'll get this instead.

Hell, I'm fairly used to drooling over exotic cars, but this price tag totally floored me. SAY WHAT? The Carrera-GT was about that same money new. Wow. This is clearly "not for sale" pricing. As in, we don't really want to sell any, but for this price we will. We just have to make it available for homologation somewhere.

What the f' are you paying attention to? He just said he's dropping $427k on the GT3 above. What part of that don't you understand?!?!

Cline, I'll let you drive my 917 if you let me drive your 2010 BMW Z4 GT3.

Never drove the GT, Called the owner of the lot 3 times. Never got back to me so I figure he isn't desperate enough for me deal with at this time. We drove a 2007 Z4 3.0si or something like that. Pretty good price. Took it on a little lunch drive to little Washington. We talked about how impractical it would be, not enough room for a passanger and her hand bag, and I then said ok I figure with a good trade we are looking at a 500 a month payment for 3 years as compared to driving a paid for car whata you wanna do? After I promised to buy her a Douney and Bourke, or something like that, hand bag and promise to get a 2009 or 10 z4 when they are 3 years old she would keep her Mini. DEAL

You got it Donnie, I am sure in 3 years they will meet my Camry rule. Any used car that is the price of an optioned up new Camry is totally practical. Let me know when your 917 depreciates that much I might take it off your hands.

Wow. You can buy a good example of another V8 BMW roadster for only about 1/4 of that money. Plus it would be a good looking car and not a Z4. ( I'm talking about the Z8 )

I have yet to see a new z4 (remember I live in BFENC) but it reminds me a lot of the the z8. I have never liked the z4 due to the side marker light and the duck tail rear end. I did like the coupe but I apparently was the only one and didn't buy one so they quit it.
