Hey all,

I have mentioned this in passing to others but wanted to make it more concrete that I am interested in selling my S2000. No hurry, no rush but if you or someone you know is interested then pass on the info. Thanks

2007 S2000 White with red/black interior. I have owned it since 2011 when it had 68k miles.
~80k miles, oil changed every 3000 with Castrol Syntec Titanium 10w30. Recent Blackstone report available for review.
Diff and trans fluid changed every other year (6k interval) with Redline products.
Clean Carfax (However, early in its life it had some incident requiring replacement of front bumper cover and passenger fender. No idea about details but fit/finish and paint are spot-on.)
Body/paint in excellent condition. Only minor chips associated with highway driving and running 255s on front wheels.
Interior in excellent condition. No rips tears etc. Seat foam and bolsters in great shape. Managed with Lexol products
Original top in excellent condition. Treated with marine-grade UV vinyl protectant 4x/yr. I pre-emptively applied some Tear-Aid to the known wear spots to fend off abrading the cloth material, which seems to have done its job.

STR prep stuff:
17x9 TR3 with 255/40/17 RE71. Am moving to 245/40 for fun to see if it is better/worse.
70mm Forcewerks exhaust with helmholtz resonator. Quieter than wind noise (with top up) at 70 mph, loud when you want it to be
Berk 70mm high flow cat
K&N intake
Hondata with custom e-tune
Penske 7500DA shocks with assorted 2.25" springs 700-900# and 6-8" free length. Shocks are serviced every 6k miles, have dynos if interested.
Saner front bar
MX5 rear bar
Spare AP2 diff

Edit:
Couple things I forgot...J's racing offset ball joints. Not the ones with roll center adjustment, so they are STR legal. It was aligned and corner balanced this season, have spec sheet available. Had valve adjustment done in January. New PCV valve in 2015. And I have modified Ground Control shock mounts in the rear to gain a bit more bump travel.

Comes with all spares to return to stock if needed. As in, if you buy the car with STR stuff, you MUST take the spares as well. Not willing to part out yet.

Asking $15k all in. Will continue to drive/use it, so it will be available for test drives at events if interested. Great car, makes all the right noises. I would like to co-drive with the next owner if they are local.

Thanks,
Steve

Incidentally, this is a BARGAIN. Enough of a bargain that I feel like I should call Steve and make sure he's okay.

I drove this car a few years ago and it was potent then. It's been even more well developed since.

Agree with Karl. I just sold my stock 2001 with 145k mi and aging paint for 10k. This looks like an absolute steel for Steve's asking price.

I can pretty easily be talked into keeping it, too

Truth is I got a great price on it when I bought it back in Dec 2011. Dead of winter, had been sitting for 6-9 months, talked them down to 16k and change so I figured it is the right thing to pass that savings to the next owner.

I am not interested in selling immediately--at the end of the season most likely since I just bought new tires and all. I have hit a performance ceiling that has become incredibly frustrating for me to get through...essentially I have not improved in the last three years of driving. I was really bummed that my "seat time only" proposal was shot down a couple of years back, so I have been going to 15+ events a season with other clubs for more seat time. That adds a lot of time away from family, and to see no performance gains in exchange for less time with my kids and wife is becoming less palatable each season. A break may be in order unless a great deal on an ND comes along with a reliable transmission.

Thanks Karl, for the positive feedback. The car is better now that it has a legit tune on it. Mike Casino loved driving it, and Andrew Pallotta had nothing but good things to say this past event at Cary. He set FTD in one run, FTP on his second run during fun runs

I can sorta of relate to this. I had wanted to become a "better" driver, but, I find that what I'm really interested in now is just being at the event with friends and keeping my driving skills up. I'm just happy to be able to drive and participate. As I've aged, I find being an "OK" autox driver is just fine by me.

I do find that being decent at autox has helped me on the street. Learning to keep "eyes up" and knowing how my car will react in a bad situation has been priceless over the years.

That said, don't bail on us yet Steve, we like having you at the events! You're always upbeat and ready to roll. We'll miss that, so keep the S2000 for now.... I can't tell you how many times I've thought about putting the mustang up for sale over the past year.

Sounds to me like you just need to stop running with other clubs and spend more time with your family, both your THSCC family and your real family.

A middle ground could be some simracing seat time. Not sure if it really translates over to real life very well, but at least you'd be at home and there'd be less prep involved.

Any thought of renting a seat on a Lemons team? If it's more seat time you crave, we each drive approx. 4 hours per race. It's not as inexpensive as autocross, but usually still pretty affordable to rent a seat for an arrive-n-drive.

FWIW I think that you are wrong about your not improving. You are consistently among the fastest drivers at most events where before you were behind the faster S2K group. Now you are with them and/or beating them, so I'm not sure which plateau you are talking about other than the continuing desire to improve.

Just sayin'...

Steve,

Keep it. It is a beautiful car and you drive it very well. Play with us locally and enjoy your family on the other 75% of weekends.

Like Rob, I'd say that you have improved. You are top ten raw and PAX consistently and are very near the top of the charts sometimes. However, being nationally competitive in any sport is another animal entirely. Inherent talent is hard to beat without years of experience and there are ceilings. There are folks with many years of experience that find local top ten numbers very rewarding. And the release (adrenaline rush) keeps the need for speed on public roads down.

BUT, if you are going to sell it, I am VERY interested. It is a fast, beautiful car, and it's a Honda. Not sure how to fit it into the livery but Pat loves it too and it can be done.

Cheers,

Lee

Thanks!

Yeah, it may just be a case of "A man's gotta know his limitations." I have always approached life with the attitude that tenacity and determination can overcome talent in almost any case, but this may be a scenario where grit tops out below my expectations. Who knows-- Maybe I am trying too hard and a little less focus will improve performance after a season or two? I like Rodney's approach and definitely enjoy the hangin out part. I am not equating selling the car with giving up, so there's that.

The difficulty with this dastardly sport is in figuring out whether you are improving. No one's performance is static--we're all pretty much improving or getting slower--even the drivers at the pointy end of the field (albeit they probably oscillate in performance much less than the average driver like me). This is the continued flaw in monitoring progress. I pick the fast people to compete against at every event, (usually the entire X class and then some Open class folks) and most of the time they beat me, hence my issues with perceived non-improvement. (I am getting beat by a smaller margin, so there's something to take away. I guess. :stick: ) The difficulty is determining the degree of relative non-improvement vs those drivers--we could both be improving relative to the Whole, but not relative to each other. And since every course is different there is no standard by which to compare using sites either.

(I thought I was getting faster as the gap between me and Andrew Pallotta had narrowed some, but then he smoked me in my own car--turns out it was only tire-related. Doh!)

I appreciate the kind words. Lee, you are welcome to test drive it any time.

So you are going to drive in Old Farts now   I know what its like to get beat in your car since every time Keehner gets in with me I get smoked. That said the goal for me is to try and balance driving well and having fun. I don't want to make it so competitive that it is work. On the other hand, I don't have fun if I drive like crap (at least not as much fun)
