Looking to sell my old '82 Mazda RX-7 (FB). http://imgur.com/a/iRjo5#0 -- Here's an album of pictures. $800, price negotiable. Currently in Lewisville, NC. Clean title.

A couple things about it:

Does not run - I believe the problem (at the time) was with the rear rotor - probably one of the Apex or side seals.
Has been sitting for 9 years.
Rear rotor housing may be trashed - engine has never been pulled. Will need a new engine or, at the very least, a rebuild (depending on whether or not the rear housing was fubared).
Racing Beat exhaust
LSD from an '83 GSL with new axle bearings. (New as of 9 years ago...)
Body damage is from previous owner (hit a curb, bent front left A-Arm, which was replaced).
Had new clutch at time of purchase from previous owner, maybe less than 5000 miles on it (New being 'relative...').
Interior is rough, some water made it inside during the time it was sitting - have tried to dry it out as much as possible.

Also have a spare transmission (don't know what year RX7 it's from), which I'll throw in with it. I was told it was good - got it with another RX7 prior to this one (Same '83 GSL as the LSD, I think).

Might make a good track car, as it rolls, but likely needs a new engine/rebuild.

Disclaimer: No idea whatever some jackass was thinking putting the "GX" logo on the side of it . Model is a GS, with some parts from a GSL. At the very least, I've never been able to find a correlation...

Maybe a good project car

Have had this car for ~11 years, just never had the time or resources to fix it up after the rear seal blew ~9 years ago. I've toyed with the idea of fixing it back up and turning it into a chump car for tracking recently, but simply don't have anywhere to store it/work on it at this time.

Not to be an ass, but GSL-SE's were only sold in 1984 and 1985! Correcting this might help you sell it, since those who would most likely be interested would know this.

Hmmm... good point, looks like a preliminary Google search confirms this. I guess I wasn't nearly as knowledgeable as I thought I was! Took the '83 RX-7 at face value - Guess the previous owner of it slapped a badge on it. Dirty bastard! Although, it has been some time, so it's possible I misremembered.

Thanks for the heads up! I've corrected it.

[edit] Also, I'm fairly certain this means this car is a GS, as it had drum brakes originally and the differential was not limited slip.

Put an LS engine in it and go!

LS is answer to many questions but... I would think the prime reason to get into an RX-7 would be the rotary engine. I can't take on another project, but if I had the space this would be fun to play with.

Quite the opposite actually IMO. The rotary is the reason not to buy an RX-7 or RX-8 unless it has a blown engine and you can get it for cheap. I think Mr. Wankel had an answer to a question nobody asked. :D An LS-3 into a RX-8 would be sweet.

We both have Camaros with LS3's somebody just needs to rear end one of our cars at a good rate so we can buy it back from insurance for the drivetrain, lol. LS1 I think would do just fine as well too, and probably easier to find running used ones.

Probably plenty of cheap LS3's in California though, Camaro SS's have been getting stolen left and right out there lately.

That scenario may or may not be a semi-secret desire for my GTO and Miata.

Mazda made the rotary so US gearheads could have clean low mileage chassis with blown motors to swap big engines into.

Just wanted to remind everyone that all posts in Swap & Sell are viewable to the outside world. You don't have to be logged in to see the content in this part of the forum. I know many here post on the assumption it is private. This is the exception. That is the danger of "For Sell" posts turning into discussions.

Good Idea, I'll have it delivered to a place I know in the country near here that Mazda's go to get V8 transplants.

Well, if I can't sell it, then I'll certainly be holding on to it in order to turn it into a track car!
