I think I'll be driving in G-Street this year so it's going up for sale in March. It would be great to see it stay in THSCC although I know it's a longshot.

Here's what I'll probably tell Autotrader & maybe even Craig:

Photobucket link:

2001 Acura Integra Type R for sale with 111,500 miles, almost completely stock, and in great shape. I drove up to Maryland to buy the car sight unseen and have owned it for about a year and a half. All the major 100k mile maintenance is up to date with all receipts for labor & parts. This car has been my daily driver and has been terrific but I need something with more room. I’ve driven the car to South Georgia, the coast and the mountains and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it cross country.

I’ve done about half the maintenance myself and had my local Honda specialist do the rest and would be happy to share receipts and a spreadsheet of purchases, mileage, dates, and expenses. The hitch was used for a mountain bike rack and the V1 isn’t included in sale.

The Good:
Very clean and few imperfections
~$3,000 in maintenance done since I’ve purchased it: timing belt/water pump, brakes, ignition, plugs/wires, rotor/cap, fluids, A/C flushed & refilled, compression test, tires, alignments, etc…
Tires are relatively new, installed 11/13, with about 3k miles. BFG 205/50/15 Rival
Bluetooth JVC stereo, A/D/S 335is component set (f&r), PPI Art Series 404 amplifier installed last spring. I still have all the stock parts but the old receiver doesn’t work
8,500 miles yearly
All Honda parts used except rotors, and spark plug wires.
Would make a great autocross or HPDE car
The car needs nothing, rust-free, has cold A/C, and everything works.
$5600 state tax value
You can get over 30mpg on the highway without cruise control
In the time I’ve owned it; it’s never had any CELs and was recently inspected

The Bad:
It’s not one of the lucky Honda engines that doesn’t see oil consumption at 100k. I’ve been using Shell ROTELLA T5 10W-30 Synthetic Blend and have seen consumption between 0.8 to 1 quart every 1,000 miles over the 20,000 miles I’ve put on the car.
The antenna’s electric motor works but has dislocated from the antenna mast. I haven’t taken it apart to see what it needs but I’ve just driven with it up.
Although it’s very clean, there is some wear & tear like stone chips, a small crack beneath the front lip, two small hail damage spots on hood, fading wiper blade arms, wheel scratches, etc...
The carfax (or similar) revealed several owners and a side collision, which I was okay with at the time or purchase. I can provide the VIN upon request.
The driver’s mat shows every bit of 100k and other than a cigarette burn on the seat from one of the previous owners, the interior is in great shape overall.
The car is loud, your spouse may not want to ever ride it in, and it’s expensive to insure

The Ugly:
$10,500 OBO (no trades please)

Yeah with the Focus there's no need for two auto-x cars as daily drivers. Plus, the R sort of beats you up a little bit to drive everyday.

I agree though. I too have a problem.

Slight hijack ... have you discovered any decent theories about why some Honda B-series engines burn nothing and some drink oil?

We race our Integra with essentially the same block and have noticed the same complete crap-shoot about whether motors drink oil. I can also say that it seems to have absolutely no consequence on reliability or longevity ... we have motors that take a quart per 2 hours under race conditions, and motors that need 1/10th of that, and all hold up amazingly well.

Oil rings? Magic oil drinking fairies? What gives?

Unfortunately for you, for a normal person the oil consumption might be a red flag, unlike those of us with some experience. (Net for possible buyers is, don't let the oil consumption bother you too much)

It's the strangest thing, but I still don't 100% know why the oil consumption exists. I was hoping the PCV value may have been the reason but it didn't change the usage, nor were the plugs oily. Oddly the car doesn't 'smoke' under WOT, so that's not a bad thing.

I'd venture to say it's the oil rings as they just can't stand the test of time at the rpms the engine was designed to take. Definitely agree though, every car is different; my AP2 S2000 with 70,000 miles used zero oil, my '97 ITR used 1 qt/3k miles, and my Civic Si used none at 60k.

Yeah, I'm hoping the oil isn't too much of a deterrent but you get used to checking & refilling pretty quickly and if you use the Rotella, the oil expense goes from $16 to $32 every interval. Basically, one jug for change, one jug for top-offs.

As I'm told, valve stem seals are a common point of oil loss.

The Duff car is a D16, but I assume the B-series will do the same thing. Engine braking will *really* show this. (I know. 30 years of street driving makes for a hard habit to break.)
