My brother is looking for a car for his sister-n-law after she had a pretty serious crash w/ a careless driver. Elizabeth is looking for car in the 10k range. Right now she lives in Charlotte, but my brother asked me to look for him. Can you recommend any place in Charlotte for them to look at? I did recommend Carmax since they have the 5 day return policy and warranty.

Please let me know if you hear of anything. I did forward a link to atlantic auto, a few nice cars there she might like.

This isn't in Charlotte, it's in Greenville. I just had a client call me that his 90 yr old mom is moving into a nursing home and he is selling her 2007 Accord SE with 19k on the odometer. I don't know if it has ever been over 35 mph. Wants 10k. If interested I will put you in touch.

Sorry car was sold. Turns out I was wrong, only had 11k on it. No joke only used to drive around the corner to the country club to play bridge.

True story, I once bought a 6 year old Accord with about 20k on the odometer. I don't remember the year, but it was whatever the last year of the hatchback two door Accord was. It was a manual with AC. Got it for whatever 80k used Accords were going for at the time, so I thought it was a smoking deal. It was from a little old lady that was a friend of the family and she only went to church and the grocery store in it. Only reason she even wanted to sell it was to get an automatic.

Turns out that "only needs tires due to the dry rot" was bull. The AC compressor shit itself within a month because she had never used it. Within the first year, every belt needed replacing. By the second year, it needed CV boots and seemed to have one issue after another, almost all traceable to it NOT being used. I was only putting about 25k per year on it. I really REALLY think I would have been better off buying an 80k mile car than the 20k mile one.

Donnie, your story heavily corroborates my opinion that frequently (not always) that a low mileage car is not always best (frequently not best). Cars that are garage queens (HVAC controlled garages at that) are the exception.

Even in addition to rubber, belts, seals etc, you have to consider the fact that most people do not change oil on a temporal basis and instead only on a mileage basis, which for infrequently driven cars is far from ideal. Cars with low miles for its age tend to be cars that are driven on short trips. Short trips generally means that the oil never comes up to temp and there is fuel dilution of the oil since the fuel in the crank case never gets purged and burnt off and instead, condenses back into the oil in the crank case. Fuel can have adverse affects and can break down oil a much higher rate than even just the cyclical shear stress of the oil being used in the engine during operation. So long story short, after a few months of this, when you romp on the car, the oil is not at the specifications that it once was despite very low miles on said oil. That is not a condition I'd want my engine to experience.

Anyway, food for thought.

I agree to low mileage car theory, better to be used than not. That said, the initial sister in law has found a car, but you know that's not the end of the story. Sister in law number 2 now is looking for a nice e46 bimmer since I sent my brother a link to a nice car at atlanticauto that's now been sold. Either a 325 or 330 sedan or coupe and automatic. If you know of any nice cars please let me know.

BTW, I'm now on the hunt for an e46 touring w/ a straight drive. If you see any of these unicorns running around, let me know please. Probably going to sell the mazda to my son at the end of Feb so I can have some cash to use as a down payment.
