Thought I would check here first since lots of club members have Miata parts floating around their garage. I am looking a Racing Beat 90-97 1 1/8" style hollow front bar, either the standard or race bar, to replace my solid front.

I think I have one sitting next to the freezer at the house. I will check the numbers tonight.

Nice! Always awesome when you can keep it in-club.

Jordan: If you don't have them, pick up the RB blocks so you don't destroy your sway bar mounts. http://www.racingbeat.com/Miata-1990-20 ... 54123.html

Cool, that one will work. Do you have the bushings and hardware for it? How much?

It's great to keep it in the club.

As for the brace, I have yet to see a sway bar mount fail on a lowered Miata with stiff springs. For an otherwise stock suspension, where the bar is carrying a lot more of the cornering load you need the brace. Further, I never liked the look of Racing Beats brackets, they look kind of thrown together to me but they are the best alternative for a simple bolt on solution. If I have any trouble, I'll fab something out of steel and weld it in. In fact, now you have me thinking about some pre-formed trailer bracketry I have seen at Agri Supply...I'll cross that bridge when I get there :D

But, but but, I read on the interwebs... :P

The installation of the blocks is a pain, but I'm playing it safe/conservative and technically within class rules. I just searched on Youtube and I saw these two back-to-back videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQG5aUrh ... Yc8s7JS2vc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3deivrLz ... jgx4a2-vQY

For the second video, all I can think of is "no undertray!! the cooling is ruined!"

Wow, that is noticeable. Not sure what spring rates he has on there, but I may be beefing up the mounts sooner rather than later!

Oh yeah, definitely. Reinstalling the sway bar without the PS was way easier, but the initial setup takes forever because you're on your back, trying to position the mount, threading the nut with the bolt, in an extremely tight spot... while essentially blind.

I'm just a copycat to what the SoCal crew does since they've spent all of the time, effort, and money figuring out what works.

So Andrew, many thanks for that video. It was not until I was removing my stock sway bar brackets that I found the damage. All things considered, I got well over 100 autocrosses for the damage to get to the point shown in the pictures.

For the new mounts I wanted to do something different. the idea was to weld them to the car and have them retain the same functionality as the stock pieces, be stronger, but no heavier than necessary. I considered drilling a large hole in each side to make them lighter, but whatever. Also important is that I can remove the upper control arm inboard "long bolt" in the future without cutting or grinding. Stock mounts with bolts weigh 13 ounces, these come out to 17.5, so not bad...assuming they are strong enough :D
