How can anyone loose a head bolt during a rebuild? Anyone have a spline drive head bolt for a BMW 325 M20 engine? Some how I managed to misplace one of the spline drive head bolts during a prolonged (over the course of months) engine freshening. I put the head on today and only have 13 of 14 head bolts. I have a set of the old style hex head bolts, but the manual suggests not reusing these and using the later, reusable spline drive bolts. I really want to complete this and have the car running over Thanksgiving week so I can break it in at Danville auto-x, so waiting for Internet orders is undesirable.

neither style headbolt is supposed to be reused. I don't know if you can buy individual bolts, but my best suggestion would be to check at Carquest- they are now part of Worldpac, which is where most shops in the area get their Euro car parts.

I've got some used torx-head bolts if you want to risk it.

Carquest purchased worldpac about seven years ago. You should be able to go into a carquest store and ask them to check worldpacs inventory. Not all carquest stores are corporate owned and those that arent may not work with worldpac.
