Progress is being made in the center stack conversion. The stereo from Crutchfield should be here tomorrow and I can wrap up the install by the end of the week. After doing some house related stuff on Saturday, I was able to install both of the sending units on the motor. Interesting thing, I ordered a oil sending unit w/ 2 leads in the hopes the "dummy light" post would allow the stock gauge to work. No luck. The gauge dropped to zero and dash warning came on displaying "low oil pressure".
I swapped out the dash gauge lead over the the actual oil pressure lead on the sending unit and ran both the VDO and stock wires to the one post. What do you know, the stock oil pressure gauge works again. Got lucky there.
Got a little wet when I removed the block plug so I could add the water temp sending unit. Leaked at first, but I think I have dry now.
I removed the left front fender liner and had very easy access to the grommet where I could pass the wiring into the cabin of the car. Gave myself a lot of wire to play w/ on the inside of the car and ran the rest of the wiring to the sending units. All wires are inside a plastic split side flex conduit and ziptied off to other cables. The wiring looks pretty good in my opinion and is away from the exhaust.
As for gauge pod, I had purchased a used SoS radio panel from a guy on the S197 forums. It had some scratches and nicks on the panel, but that was ok as I wanted to paint it. The factory finish on the SoS was a little to glossy for me, so some 1000 grit sandpaper, some "filler" primer, flat black paint and finished off w/ some flat clear. It came out nice and almost matches the paint and texture on the center stack.
I've added a few pictures of progress so far of the radio panel....

Hopefully I'll have this in place by the end of the week. Post up more pics then.
