This one probably needs typial stuff at this mileage (clutch, IMS update, etc), but being the highest performance non-Turbo/non-GTx 996, and given 1964 numbered models were built, "someday" it will be appreciated a good bit more than the typical 996 (not to mention being fun to drive). No targa though...hey, but at least you can buy a service plan for $2k that will last almost 50k miles...

Thanks man! I have talked to them a few times over the last 2 weeks and have already emailed a lowball offer :)

If the offer sticks fine, otherwise I'm gonna hold out for something other than silver...

Mike,

Where can a DIY'er get all the useful and credible tech info that has shown up in sources such as http://www.excellence-mag.com/ over the decades? I have only skimmed Excellence over the years (which has done a very effective job of scaring me away from any Porsche I might otherwise "think" I could afford . . . :( ).

Got a big chubby over this one at the moment :) Not a targa, but considering the color, history, and options, I can deal with it... full leather, swoopy rockers, xenons, etc. It's an 02.

Attached are some photos. Drives awesome. All records available if needed. 71000 miles. All services plus optional have been performed,e.g, upgraded ceramic bearing. Heated seats, PSM, motion sensor. Im the 2nd owner-had now about 8 years and essentially new when purchased. Previous owner was a busy executive who had no time to drive it. I hardly use the vehicle as a I travel on average weekly and may use one or two days a week. Let me know if interested in buying.

I sent a bunch of questions, if it all checks out, I plan to continue to pursue this one...

Mike, is the word "Carrera" on there straight? It sure looks like its too far over to the right judging against the license plate cutout in the bumper. Maybe it's just the photo but it leapt out at me.

Just my personal opinion, but that interior color combo is awful.

Well, *I* like it, but to be honest if most people hate it, and it could affect resale, then maybe I should reconsider ... don't want to get into something that I can't sell.

Honestly from everything I have seen, it's my top pick. Black is just too hard to keep clean, and the grey looks pretty bland, and the natural brown is just too bright.

That steering wheel is horrific -- wood grain wheel in a 911? Perhaps ok in a 1970s Chrysler with its Corinthian Leather, but it sure seems out of place in a 911.

Too many conflicting colors

Brown
Light brown
Wood
Black
Grey/silver

Get rid of the wood, and the silver pieces around the shifter and it would look okay, I guess.

I would call them a bunch of haters, with the exception of the steering wheel! Don't even insult the Chrysler Cordoba on that, that is the must f*****g (sorry couldn't think of a more descriptive adjective) awful thing I have ever seen on a nice car. I would have to take a nice MOMO steering wheel to pick the car up if they gave it to me.

So you guys are mostly hung up on the steering wheel, huh? Interesting. I would prefer a different wheel but it's not a deal breaker for me.

911's are not exactly bought for their wonderful interiors anyways. But you guys have me second guessing my future ability to sell the car. I just don't want another "mee too!" silver on black which is 90% of the cars out there. Unique counts for extra points in my book, even if it's to the distaste (as is the case here) of others...

That interior makes me want to vomit.

There's a reason there are so many silver ones...that's what people want. I think all the 40AE cars are silver. *shrug* I don't love the silver, but I'd take a silver/black over red/tan any day. Especially with that wood. Wood has no place on a sportscar. That said, swapping out the steering wheel wouldn't be a big deal by itself, anyway. But the rest of that interior is still pretty bad.

Don't listen to these guys Mike, I like the interior color and I'd take that over black any day.

right on, Rodney. IMO, disliking the steering wheel is kinda like refusing a blind date with Megan Fox because of her clubbed thumb. To me, it confirms the car was cared for but not driven hard....a perfect candidate
