Since we've gravitated from Honda to Porsche talk, any taker on what kind of 911's under the cover? If all goes well, I'll be helping this fellow in MD reclaim more garage space Tuesday. I'll never grow up.

Kinds of look like mine under the cover except the tail seem wider.
I Would say an 87-89 Carrera, it will be a nice car the best of the older 911
or maybe a C2 but any SC or Carrera will look the same too with a tail. Fender doesn’t look wide enough for a Turbo.

So after living with the 996 for a few weeks ... I love it. Just a solid, torquey, agile, and so-far reliable daily driver. Driving position is great, stereo is awesome, and I've used the heated seats a few times. Still makes me happy every time I look at it. It has surprisingly decent interior space for the kids, and my 8 year old son loves being driven around in it. Front trunk's not bad, it swallows a couple of fold up chairs and other stuff just fine. So far I'm really glad I sold the S2000 and WRX to fund this ... the WRX was fun but I certainly don't miss the turbo lag, and the S2000, well, it just got to the point that the lack of torque pissed me off every time I drove it, and it was always a little claustrophobic with the top up.

I have a few things on my to-do list.

- Is there a way to add some front camber? Understeers like mad at the limit.
- Need to find some 245 front tires for it
- Plan to pull the trans to figure out why the clutch pedal effort is higher than other 911's I have driven. I suspect the mechanism is really dried out, or possibly the clutch that went in 30k miles ago was a HD unit. Trans removal doesn't look bad at all. Maybe the easiest I have done.

Something is much greater than the center of gravity on the 996....? Radius of gyration?

The Christmas party humor should be epic this year.

Although the car was a marvel of engineering a few years ago, I have to agree the motor really lets the car down. The chassis is so good, its a shame you have to rev the hell out of the thing.

The Lotus Elise: marginally better than an S2000 in some ways, and worse with the only bad thing about the S2000. And with less interior room (hard to do) and half the trunk space. And costs like twice as much.

That's why I nearly immediately sold mine...driving it "on cam" on the road was a recipe for more than just speeding tickets. And driving it off-cam was just such a let-down.

I have enjoyed mine enough that I have myself wondering how good a boxster S might be. V8 power and torque would be nice, but even a nice 6 cylinder might really do it.

Go with a Cayman S. Less of a chick car IMO. :P

Get a 2009 or newer one though if you're going to track or autocross it. A huge redesign of the oil system occurred due to problems with the earlier engines under extreme g-loading conditions.

9A1 is much more robust Pcar engine it seems compared the the previous M series. From what I hear IMS/RMS and oiling issues are largely reduced. Direct injection (on S models), better LSD options.
