Jason, or anybody else who knows.

Is it possible to do create a place that can make files permenantly available from within the forum?

What I am looking for is a place to post things like generic site maps and our event chair guide.

Thanks.

Shawn

Shawn, I can place them into a directory for you.

I see this as 2 separate issues: the hosting of the files to be shared, and controlling access to them.

My understanding is that these forums are hosted on Jason's own computer, as an interim step towards us moving the forums and the whole THSCC site to another, single, provider. My guess is that Jason is probably not too enthused about the prospect of offering up a whole lot more of his disk space. We do, however, have plenty of space available on the club web site.

If we put files on the club website, though, anyone who can find them can read them. If you (Shawn) want to make these documents available to club members only, then that's a problem with putting them on the club website.

A compromise might be to make a members-only forum here that had pointers to the documents, but the documents themselves could be hosted on the club website, so the only link to reach them would be from the member-controlled forum. Not perfect, but it's something.

If you don't mind the docs being publicly accessible (and I guess I don't see a problem if it's just course maps, event chair guides, and stuff like that), then we can host the files on the club site, make links on the club site to reach the docs, and forget about the forum part.

How's that sound?

Carl,

Thanks that sounds like it may work. I'm not in a big hurry to do anything with the idea. It just occured to me the other day when someone asked again if I had a map for Laurinburg.

I'll try to get some files together to put online soon.

Shawn
