I am not an expert on the B series engines, but I did a few google searches and I am not finding anything about oval cylinders. I am not saying it's not an issue, but if someone can point me to some examples I would appreciate it. I can't be a true Honda and Civic fan if I don't at least ask for some evidence. My honor has been insulted!! ;) Michael, you started this, where did this come from other than the Tom Hoppe's experience?

PS: I love my D16 engine. :D But still wish I had a B series engine.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I don't have any links handy, just something I thought I remember reading a few times over the years. H22s are the way to go anyways.

Negative. K20!

All this Honda talk makes me want another AAARG! FWIW, after about 7 years of browsing the Honda forums, I don't recall any instances of ovalization, just piston rings issues leading to plentiful oil consumption (i.e. a quart a week).

I'm not doubting the possibility of the oval issue, but I don't think it's something to lose sleep over, such as theft.

I do remember at least two people that used to own a '99 Si that autocrossed with THSCC and theirs went boom. I may be mistaken, but IIRC, they made that car in 99-00 and then stopped the Si for few years after that.

Yes. Gone for 2001, then back in 2002 as a mostly unloved hatchback built in England, famous mostly for its dashboard-mounted shifter.

Ive tracked my type R many of times and have never un into any issues with it. but perhaps thats because the motor was designed to handle that sorta stuff (at least i hope  )..

either way.. Ive loved every track event with my R.
All stock. Just R comps. and man is it a blast.

Now that im also driving around my subaru, i dont know. I want to give AWD a try out there. but it handles no where near the R.

Yeah, I stopped counting the number of track events I did in my Integra GS-R at somewhere around fifty. The head was never off that engine. The car now has a non-VTEC drivetrain in it, and is racing ITA out of Atlanta.

Please tell me that you're not planning on converting the Telehowski Miata into a track car. :(

Sorry Wes, the conversion has begun. The roll bar arrived yesterday :!:

We are going to keep it for autocrossing at this point as well - just potentially swap out the seats - we haven't gotten that far in the process though. Lots to do before CMP - then we will figure out autocross.

We have to look at seats as well - both Charlie and I have problems fitting under the roll bar with the current seats. In fact, we looked at Marty's race Miata that he is selling and even with his race seats we were both off by 1/4 inch.

Mo, come look at Bernie's Miata race seats this weekend in Greenville. He has a Kirkey mounted directly to the floor. He's 6'2'' and has no problem with the height. Some will argue the comfort factor as a daily driver, but you have to do what you have to do. :whoknows:

We definitly will.

And this isn't car isn't going to be a daily driver (just auto-x & track), the daily driver will be Charlie's track car when we finally find one.

Thanks for the suggestion & see you in Greenville!

Mo

I've driven Bernie's Miata to and from VIR and that seat is very uncomfortable for someone my height (6'-3"). Even if you clear the bar, it is not comfortable IMO. For Mo and Charlie being much shorter, another race-type seat will pobably work for you though.

As far as a Miata for a track car, if I could fit in one I'd track mine. Not too many cars turn and handle that well IMO.

The seat has become more livable by puting a half inch of foam under the seat cover. But it still aint great, and it's not for anything over a half hour ride. But if you want to track it and get under the bar there's going to be some sacrifice.

I have a corbeau FX1 in mine mounted on the POS slider. The way I clear the bar is to take the padding out. You may not have a problem depending upon seat placement and body proportion. Legs long torso short, or legs short torso long...Seat is OK. but I would not necesarily recommend it.
